- Das Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment (Akronym: SCOPE; dt. Wissenschaftliches Komitee für Umweltprobleme) wurde 1969 vom Internationalen Wissenschaftsrat (ICSU) gegründet. Derzeitiger Präsident ist der Norweger . Das SCOPE ist ein interdisziplinäres Gremium, das sich mit globalen Umweltfragen beschäftigt. Ein weltweites Netzwerk von Natur- und Sozialwissenschaftlern und entsprechenden Institutionen bewertet wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse zu aktuellen und potentiellen Umweltfragen. Schon 1976 verfasste SCOPE einen Bericht im Auftrag der ICSU, in dem vor einer starken Steigerung des Kohlendioxid-Gehalts in der Atmosphäre und den daraus resultierenden Umweltschäden gewarnt wurde. Les membres de SCOPE comprennent 38 académies scientifiques et conseils de recherche nationaux et 22 unions scientifiques internationales. Le président actuel est Jon Samseth (Norvège). Le secrétariat est situé aux Pays-Bas. Le SCOPE existe principalement pour développer des revues scientifiques sur les questions environnementales clés, autour des thèmes de la gestion des ressources sociétales et naturelles, des processus écosystémiques et de la biodiversité, de la santé et de l'environnement. En 2012, le SCOPE et Elsevier ont créé une revue universitaire trimestrielle à comité de lecture, Environmental Development. SCOPE's members include 38 national science academies and research councils, and 22 international scientific unions. The current president is Jon Samseth (Norway). The secretariat is located in the Netherlands. SCOPE exists primarily to develop scientific reviews of key environmental issues around the themes of managing societal and natural resources, ecosystem processes, and biodiversity, health and environment. In 2012, SCOPE and Elsevier established a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal, Environmental Development. In 2019 SCOPE became an affiliated member of the International Science Council. (en)
