- Hrad Sawajama (japonsky 佐和山城, Sawajama-džó) byl hrad ve městě v prefektuře Šiga v Japonsku. Hrad byl důležitou vojenskou pevností v provincii Ómi na strategicky důležité . Během období Sengoku vlastnil hrad klan Azai. Po porážce klanu Azai na konci 16. století se jeho vlastníkem stal Micunari Išida. Po bitvě u Sekigahary na hrad ležící jen pár mil na západ od bojiště zaútočil 22. října 1600 v čele asi 15 000 mužů, z nichž většina patřila k jednotkám, které během předchozí bitvy změnily stranu a připojily se k Tokugawské východní armádě. I když Sawajamu bránil bratr Micunariho, , padl hrad už následující den. V hořícím hradě spáchal Masazumi sebevraždu. Následně (už v roce 1600) hrad získal do svého držení Naomasa Ii. Ale protože byl po bojích hrad ve špatném stavu, byl mezi lety 1603 a 1622 nedaleko postaven nový hrad Hikone a na jeho stavbu byl použit i materiál z chátrajícího hradu Sawajama. Ten se pak stal hlavním sídlem rodu Ii během období Edo. (cs)

- Sawayama Castle (佐和山城, Sawayama-jō) was a castle in the city of Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. This castle was an important military stronghold of Ōmi Province. The Azai clan held this castle in the Sengoku Period. Niwa Nagahide held it after the ruin of the Azai clan and later, Ishida Mitsunari in the end of the 16th century. This castle was attacked by Kobayakawa Hideaki after the Battle of Sekigahara. The castle surrendered at half a day though the brother of Mitsunari, and his father Ishida Masatsugu , defended it. Afterwards, Ii Naomasa occupied Sawayama Castle. However, he destroyed it, and moved to Hikone Castle. Much of Sawayama Castle's stone walls and buildings were carried away for use in Hikone Castle. At present, the only indication of this old history is a sign reading "The Site of Sawayama Castle." There is also a hiking course that leads to the summit of , from which hikers see a panoramic view that includes Hikone Castle and Lake Biwa. (en)
