- سلّوم مكرزل (1879 - 1952) هو ناشر وصحفي لبناني أسس «المطبعة التجارية السورية الأمريكية» بنيويورك. ولد سلوم مكرزل في الفريكة في المتن الشمالي في جبل لبنان وهاجر إلى نيويورك، حيث مارس أعمالاً تجارية تركها لاحقا لمساعدة شقيقه نعوم مكرزل في تحرير جريدة الهدى. ابتكر في 1910 طريقة جديدة لتطبيق اللِّيْنُوتَيب على الحروف العربية وأصبحت الهدى أول جريدة عربية تُطبع بتلك التقنية الطباعية المتطورة في ذلك العهد. أصدر جريدة بريد أمريكا لفترة قصيرة (1911) وأصدر المجلة التجارية (1917) لفترة قصيرة أيضا. وأصدر في 1927 مجلة العالم السوري باللغة الإنجليزية كتب فيها أمريكيون عرب وتوجهت إلى الرأي العام الأمريكي بلغته وقد طالبت بحقوق الجالية العربية في الولايات المتحدة. وأوقف مجلته رغم انتشارها عند وفاة نعوم مكرزل في 1932 وأدار جريدة الهدى وطورها حتى أصبحت جريدة متميزة ومؤثرة في الجالية العربية في أمريكا. وعقب وفاته في 1952 أشرفت عليها ابنته ماري لمدة قبل أن تبيعها للناشر البارز فارس أسطفان. من بين الكتب التي نشرتها «المطبعة التجارية السورية الأمريكية» كتاب «حكايات المهجر» لعبد المسيح حداد. - Salloum Antoun Mokarzel (Arabic: سلوم مكرزل1881–1952) was an influential Lebanese American intellectual and publisher. He was the younger brother of Naoum Mokarzel who was the founder of Al-Hoda, one of the first Arabic language newspapers published in the United States. Between December 1918 and June 1926, he published and edited "The Syrian-American Commercial Magazine" ("المجلة التجارية السورية الأمريكية"), also known as "The New World" ("العالم الجديد"). In 1926, he founded and published The Syrian World, a magazine that published articles on the history and culture of Greater Syria, which at the time consisted of and referred to the modern day states and territories of Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine. After The Syrian World ceased publication as a magazine in 1932, Salloum converted the publication to a weekly newspaper. After Naoum's death in 1932, Salloum took over Al-Hoda, which passed at his death in 1952 to his daughter Mary. The newspaper closed in 1971. (en)
