L'espècie està catalogada En perill crític d'extinció per la Unió Internacional per a la Conservació de la Natura, ja que no s'ha registrat cap espècimen des de 1918. Està protegit per la llei indonèsia des de 1972. També podria haver estat afectat pel tsunami de l'oceà Índic de 2004. El nom específic de Rück fa referència a M. La Rukia muŝkaptulo estas endemia de la insulo de Sumatro, Indonezio. Ĝi estas konata nur per kvar specimenoj. - Rück's blue flycatcher (Cyornis ruckii) is a passerine bird in the Old World flycatcher family Muscicapidae. It is known from only four specimens and is endemic to a small area in northeast Sumatra, Indonesia, inhabiting primary lowland forest. Although all specimens share common characteristics, such as a black bill, brown iris, and black feet, two of the collected specimens show some physical discrepancy with the other two. They were initially described as Cyornis vanheysti before being accepted as specimens of C. ruckii. Rück's blue flycatcher has also been compared to other species of Cyornis. The species is listed as "Critically Endangered" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature as it has not been recorded since 1918. It has been protected by Indonesian law since 1972. It also might have been affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. (en)

- De Rücks niltava (Cyornis ruckii) is een zangvogel uit de familie Muscicapidae (vliegenvangers). Deze vogel is waarschijnlijk uitgestorven op Sumatra, want na 1918 is deze niet meer gezien of verzameld. De vogel is in Nederland bekend van twee museumexemplaren die in 1917 en 1918 zijn verzameld op Sumatra door August F.C.A. van Heijst (1887-1962) en daarna niet meer gezien. Deze specimens zaten in de collectie van het Zoölogisch Museum Amsterdam (nu in Naturalis Biodiversity Center). Deze vogels leken op vogels die eerder door de Franse vogelkundige Émile Oustalet waren beschreven aan de hand van vogels die in 1880 in Malakka waren gekocht en naar Parijs gestuurd.
