Census 2011) in der englischen Grafschaft North Yorkshire. Bis 1836 wurde die Kirche Ripon Minster genannt, bevor sie zur Bischofskirche der Diözese Ripon wurde, der ersten in England neu gegründeten Diözese seit der Reformationszeit. 2014 wurde die anglikanische in Mittelengland neu geschaffen, in der sie – neben den Kathedralen von Bradford und Wakefield – eine von insgesamt drei Konkathedralen ist. Der dem Doppelpatrozinium des Apostels Petrus und des Wilfrid von York unterstellte Kirchenbau ist als Grade-I-Baudenkmal gelistet. Gegründet wurde die spätere Kathedrale als Kloster schottischer Mönche um 660, dann von Wilfrid von York 672 als Benediktinerabtei neu begründet. Im 10. Jahrhundert wurde sie zu einer Stiftskirche und wirkte für das restliche Mittelalter als eine der Mutterkirchen in der großen Diözese York. Die heutige Kirche ist die vierte an gleicher Stelle und wurde zwischen dem 12. und 16. Jahrhundert errichtet. Die bekanntesten architektonischen Merkmale der Kathedrale sind ihre frühgotische Westfassade im Early English Style, der Chor mit Chorgestühl und Chorschranke aus dem späten 15. Jahrhundert und die aus dem 7. Jahrhundert stammende Krypta des Kirchenbaus von Wilfrid von York, ein bedeutsames Beispiel frühchristlicher Bauten in England. (de)

Founded as a monastery by monks of the Irish tradition in the 660s, it was refounded as a Benedictine monastery by St Wilfrid in 672. The church became collegiate in the tenth century, and acted as a mother church within the large Diocese of York for the remainder of the Middle Ages. The present church is the fourth, and was built between the 13th and 16th centuries. In 1836 the church became the cathedral for the Diocese of Ripon. In 2014 the Diocese was incorporated into the new Diocese of Leeds, and the church became one of three co-equal cathedrals of the Bishop of Leeds. The cathedral is notable architecturally for its gothic west front in the Early English style, considered one of the best of its type, as well as the Geometric east window. The seventh-century crypt of Wilfrid's church is a significant example of early Christian architecture in England. The cathedral has Grade I listed building status. (en)

Restauracje w latach 1829–1831, prowadzone przez Edwarda Blore'a; w latach 1843–1844, prowadzone przez Williama Railtona i w 1862 roku przez Sir Gilberta Scotta. Ta ostatnia był najdalej idąca, polegająca szczególnie na usunięciu maswerku z okien na zachodniej fasadzie, dając im ich znany, ale złudny efekt istnienia nieco wcześniej, niż są naprawdę, a to zgodne z zaawansowanym gustem lat. 60. XIX wieku.
