- Der Racefilm ist ein eigenes Filmgenre, das hauptsächlich während der Jahre 1915 bis 1950 in den USA seine Blütezeit erlebte. Der Racefilm wurde nur von Afroamerikanern produziert und veröffentlicht. Das Genre wurde nicht von den Filmstudios in Hollywood unterstützt. Aus diesem Grund sind die meisten Filme des Genres sehr unbekannt und werden von Filmhistorikern weniger beachtet. Mit dem Racefilm entstanden zahlreiche Independentfilme aus allen Filmgenres. (de)
- L'expression anglaise race film (ou race movies, littéralement : film ethnique) désigne un genre de films produits aux États-Unis pendant une période s'étalant environ de 1915 à 1950 et qui consistait en des films produits pour un public noir, avec des acteurs noirs. En tout, environ cinq cents films de cette catégorie ont été tournés dont moins d'une centaine existent encore. Comme ces films ont été produits en dehors du circuit des grands studios hollywoodiens, ils ont été largement oubliés par les historiens du cinéma grand public. En leur temps, ces films étaient très populaires parmi les amateurs de théâtre afro-américains. Leur influence continue à perdurer dans le cinéma commercial (ainsi qu'à la télévision) destiné aux Afro-Américains. Approximately five hundred race films were produced. Of these, fewer than one hundred remain. Because race films were produced outside the Hollywood studio system, they were largely forgotten by mainstream film historians until they resurfaced in the 1980s on the BET cable network. In their day, race films were very popular among African-American theatergoers. Their influence continues to be felt in cinema and television marketed to African Americans. The term "race film" is sometimes used to describe films of the period aimed at other minority audiences.
