- Nicholas Robert „Nick“ Jennings (* 15. Dezember 1966 in London) ist ein britischer Informatiker. Jennings studierte Informatik an der University of Exeter und wurde 1992 am Queen Mary College der Universität London bei Abe Mamdani promoviert (Joint Intentions as a Model of Multi-Agent Cooperation). Danach wurde er Lecturer, Reader und 1997 Professor am Queen Mary College. Er befasst sich mit Agenten-orientierter Softwareentwicklung und Multiagentensystemen, die er auch zu realen Anwendungen führte, unter anderem in der Wirtschaft, bei Sensor- und Telekommunikationsnetzwerken, Energieversorgung, Produktionskontrolle und in der Cybersicherheit. Er gehört auf seinem Gebiet zu den hochzitierten Wissenschaftlern. Ab 1999 war er Professor an der University of Southampton, wo er ab 2014 Regius Professor of Computer Science war. Von 2010 bis 2015 war er Chief Scientific Officer der britischen Regierung für nationale Sicherheit. 2016 wurde er Vize-Provost für Forschung des Imperial College London und Professor für KI. Stand 2022 ist Jennings Vizekanzler und Präsident der Loughborough University. 1999 erhielt er den IJCAI Computers and Thought Award und er erhielt den ACM Autonomous Agents Research Award. He was previously the Vice-Provost for Research and Enterprise at Imperial College London, the UK's first Regius Professor of Computer Science, and the inaugural Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Government on National Security. His research covers the areas of AI, autonomous systems, agent-based computing and cybersecurity. He is involved in a number of startups including Aerogility, Contact Engine, Crossword Cyber Security, and Reliance Cyber Science. He is also an adviser to Darktrace, a member of the UK Government's AI Council, chair of the National Engineering Policy Centre and a council member for the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
