- Pontiac Sunfire je osobní automobil nižší střední třídy, představený pro modelový rok 1995 značkou Pontiac jako nástupce vozu . Od svého předchůdce se lišil jak jménem, tak výrazným designem. Nový design byl navrhován společně s novým , se kterým Sunfire sdílí platformu J-body a mechanické součástky. Sunfire se prodával ve třech karosériích: jako sedan, kupé nebo kabriolet. Všechny tři varianty byly k dispozici v základní výbavě SE, vozy v karosérii kupé či kabriolet měly navíc sportovní výbavu GT, která obsahovala např. 16-palcová kola z lehkých slitin, dvojitý výfuk a agresivnější design přední části vozu. Výbava SE měla v základu 2,2 litrový čtyřválcový motor 2200 OHV, výbava GT 2,3 litrový LD2 a později 2,4 litrový LD9 - oba motory byly k dispozici i ve výbavě SE, ovšem za doplatek. V roce 2002 byl systém dvou výbav zrušen a jediným motorem, který se do Sunfire montoval, byl 2,2 litrový . Kabriolet se do roku 1998 prodával pouze ve výbavě SE, od roku 1999 zase naopak pouze ve výbavě GT. Po roce 2000 byla výroba kabrioletů Sunfire ukončena. Kabriolety se vyráběly odděleně v závodě "Genesis" v Lansingu v Michiganu. Pontiac Sunfire za svůj jedenáctiletý životní cyklus prošel celkem dvěma facelifty. Poprvé v roce 2000, kdy se jednalo pouze o malou modernizaci předního a zadního nárazníku a větší modernizace celého vozu v roce 2003. Od tohoto roku až do ukončení výroby byla jediná dostupná karoserie v USA kupé, sedan se ale nadále prodával v Kanadě a Mexiku. Poslední Pontiac Sunfire sjel z montážní linky 22. června 2005. Pro rok 2006 General Motors nahradil Sunfire vozem . (cs)

In den Vereinigten Staaten war von 2003 bis 2005 nur das Coupé verfügbar. Die Limousine wurde in Kanada und Mexiko bis zum Ende der Produktionszeit weiterhin verkauft. Gebaut wurde der Sunfire bis 2004 in Lordstown, Ohio (bevor die Produktion für Chevrolet Cobalt und Pontiac Pursuit/G5 umgerüstet wurde), und in Ramos Arizpe in Mexiko. Die Cabrio-Modelle wurden in Lansing, Michigan, hergestellt.Im Jahr 2004 wurden über 36.000 Exemplare des Sunfire in den Vereinigten Staaten und darüber hinaus 33.724 in Kanada verkauft, jedes zum Preis von etwa 11.500 US$. - The Pontiac Sunfire is a compact car by Pontiac that was introduced for the 1995 model year to replace the Sunbird. Not only was the name changed, but dramatic styling changes were included as well. The new styling was shared with the redesigned Chevrolet Cavalier. The J platform was updated structurally to meet more stringent safety standards for the 1996 model year. The Pontiac Sunfire went through two facelifts in its 11-year run: a small redesign in 2000 featuring the heavy plastic cladding look that was prevalent with Pontiac at the time, and a more streamlined update in 2003. In the US, the coupe was the only model available from 2003 to 2005. The sedan continued to be sold in Canada and Mexico until the end of production on June 22, 2005. GM replaced the Sunfire with the G5 for the 2006 model year in Canada and the 2007 model year in the United States. (en)
