- Ein Play-Action ist ein Spielzug im American Football. Die angreifende Mannschaft täuscht ein Laufspiel an, spielt aber tatsächlich einen Pass. Play-Action gehört zu den Fake-Spielzügen. Beim typischen Ablauf eines Play-Action nimmt der Quarterback den Ball nach dem Snap und läuft zurück, um so zu tun, als ob er ihn dem Runningback übergibt. Bei der Übergabe zieht er jedoch den Ball zurück und versteckt ihn vor der gegnerischen Defense. Der Runningback läuft vorwärts, als hätte er einen Ball in den Armen und wolle Yards gutmachen. Auch die Wide-Receiver arbeiten zunächst als Blocker, um den fiktiven Lauf zu unterstützen. Die gegnerische Defense konzentriert sich nun also – wenn die Täuschung gelingt – auf den Runningback. Plötzlich gibt jedoch der Quarterback das Versteck auf, die Wide Receiver brechen aus ihren Blöcken und laufen sich frei, um vom Quarterback mit einem Pass bedient werden zu können. (de)
