- Der Pizol (romanisch für Hohe Spitze), früher auch Piz Sol, ist ein 2844 m ü. M. alpiner Gipfel der Glarner Alpen. Er liegt 16 Kilometer nordwestlich von Chur im Sarganserland des Schweizer Kantons St. Gallen, zwischen dem Weisstannental, dem Taminatal und dem Calfeisental. Andere Gipfel im Bergmassiv sind das (2826 m), das (2820 m), die (2643 m) und der (2421 m). Der Pizol ist der höchste Berg, der vollständig im Kanton St. Gallen liegt. Östlich des Gipfels des Pizols lag der Pizolgletscher. Während der Dürre und Hitze 2018 zerfiel der Gletscher in einzelne Stücke. Im Jahr 2019 wurde er letztmals vermessen, nachdem er fast vollständig geschmolzen und zerfallen war. Am 22. September 2019 fand eine Gedenkfeier statt. Als Pizol wird landläufig auch das Wander- und Skigebiet auf der Nordostseite des Pizols oberhalb der Ortschaften Wangs und Bad Ragaz bezeichnet. (de)
- The Pizol is a mountain in the Glarus Alps of northeastern Switzerland, overlooking in the canton of St. Gallen. At 2,844 metres above sea level, it is the highest summit of the chain separating the valleys of the Seez and the Tamina rivers, and the highest mountain lying entirely within the canton of St. Gallen. There are five mountain lakes (Pizolseen) on Pizol: at Pizolhütte, , , Schwarzsee (2368 m) and (2174 m). A small cirque glacier, the Pizolgletscher, had been located above 2,600 metres on the northern side of the mountain. Pizol Hut lies at 2,227 metres (7,306 ft). On 22 September 2019, a 'funeral' and mourning ceremony was held for the Pizol glacier which had disappeared due to rising temperatures. A similar ceremony had been held in August when the Okjökull glacier in Iceland disappeared. (en)
