- Panochthus es un género extinto de mamífero gliptodonte, que vivió en América del Sur durante la época del Pleistoceno. Sus restos se han encontrado en las regiones del Gran Chaco y las Pampas de Argentina (Formaciones , y ), en Brasil, Bolivia (Formaciones y ), Paraguay y Uruguay (Formaciones y Dolores). Pudo alcanzar los 3 metros de longitud y una tonelada y media de peso; la parte superior del cráneo y el cuerpo están protegidos por la armadura hemisférico integrado por cientos de escudos óseos redondeados. La cola, corta y en forma de cuña, consistía en pequeñas bandas óseas con clavos pequeños utilizados para la defensa. También se han reportado anillos traqueales preservados en un espécimen. (es)

It could reach 3 metres (9.8 ft) in length and a weight up to 1,500 kilograms (3,300 lb) the upper skull and the body were protected by hemispherical armor composed of hundreds of rounded scales. The tail, short and wedge-shaped, consisted of small bony bands with small spikes used for defense. Preserved tracheal rings are known from one specimen. (en)

Raggiungeva i 3 m di lunghezza: il corpo era protetto da una calotta ossea semisferica costituita da centinaia di scaglie di forma arrotondata (da qui il nome P. tuberculatus); tali scaglie ricoprivano anche la parte superiore del cranio.La coda, corta e cuneiforme, era costituita da bande ossee dotate di piccoli spuntoni ed era fatta roteare furiosamente quando l'animale si sentiva minacciato. - Panochthus (лат. , от др.-греч. παν- +ὄχθος «совершеннейший холм») — род гигантских ископаемых броненосцев из подсемейства Glyptodontinae, обитавших в плиоцене — голоцене (3,6—0,01 млн лет назад) на территории современных Аргентины, Боливии, Бразилии, Парагвая и Уругвая. Самый многочисленный, по видовому разнообразию, род из Glyptodontinae. Вымерли между 12 и 5 тыс. лет назад. Длина тела этих зверей достигала 3 м, а вес 1500 кг, некоторые виды могли достигать веса до 2300 кг. Тело и верхняя сторона черепа были защищены полусферической бронёй, состоящей из множества мелких пластинок. Хвост, короткий и клиновидный, имел костные пластины с небольшими шипами, использовавшимися для обороны. (ru)
