Statt von der Oszillation spricht man auch von der Schwankung oder der Schwankungsbreite. Die Oszillation dient bei der Untersuchung von Stetigkeitsfragen zu Abbildungen von topologischen Räumen in metrische Räume dazu, in einem gewissen Sinne die Unstetigkeit einer Abbildung zu messen.
