- On Air es el segundo disco firmado en solitario por el músico británico Alan Parsons tras la disolución de The Alan Parsons Project. Publicado en 1996 se trata de un álbum conceptual inspirado en la aeronáutica y la fascinación del ser humano por volar. Está compuesto casi totalmente por el músico Ian Bairnson, colaborador de Parsons desde la época del Project, y entre los cantantes participantes destacan las presencias de Christopher Cross, Neil Lockwood y Steve Overland. Musicalmente es un disco muy diferente de su primer disco en solitario, Try Anything Once, y de los álbumes de The Alan Parsons Project aunque incluye algunos elementos característicos como algunas canciones instrumentales o la rotación de cantantes. El sonido predominante se encuadra en la música rock suave matizando ritmos y arreglos sinfónicos propios de otras grabaciones de Parsons. Musically, this album is somewhat different from Try Anything Once and the Alan Parsons Project albums, opting for more of a soft rock sound and a more stable band line-up rather than the funky rhythms, symphonic flares, or rotating vocalists of the past. Het album volgt de geschiedenis van de luchtvaart, te beginnen bij Daedalus en Icarus in Too close to the sun, via Leonardo da Vinci's dromen over vliegen in One day to fly, tot het plan om een man op de maan te krijgen in Apollo, een nummer waarin de stem te horen is van John F. Kennedy met zijn beroemde toespraak op 25 mei 1961. Het nummer Brother up in heaven werd geschreven door de gitarist van The Alan Parsons Project Ian Bairnson, en refereert aan zijn neef (een helikopter piloot), die is neergeschoten tijdens een vredesmissie in Irak in 1994. Het nummer Fall Free is opgedragen aan , een luchtsurfer die omkwam in 1995 tijdens het filmen van een reclamespot voor een frisdrank.
