- Ein Noken ist eine multifunktionale, geknotete oder auch gewebte Tasche, der Papua im indonesischen Teil West-Papua (früher auf Indonesisch: Irian Jaya) der Insel Neuguinea. Charakteristischerweise wird das Noken von der Oberseite des Kopfs hängend getragen, um Brennholz, abgeerntete Pflanzen und Früchte, sonstige Lebensmittel oder auch Säuglinge zu transportieren. Gelegentlich wird das Noken von Frauen auch dazu benutzt, sich die Brust zu bedecken. Bei lokalen Wahlen dient die Tasche auch mal als "Wahlurne". Nahezu jede Frau im Hochland Papuas trägt die Kopftasche und selbst im Stadtbild Wamenas taucht sie immer wieder auf. Hergestellt wird das Noken aus getrockneter Baumrinde, wobei auch die Stängel von Orchideen-Pflanzen Verwendung finden. Der Herstellungsprozess dauert je nach Größe zwischen einer und drei Wochen. Produziert wird das Noken heute vornehmlich in touristischen Zentren der Sauwadarek-Papua. Im Jahr 2012 nahm die UNESCO die traditionelle Handarbeit zum Anfertigen von Noken in ihre Liste des dringend erhaltungsbedürftigen immateriellen Kulturerbes auf. (de)
- Noken (from Biak: inoken) is a traditional Indonesian multifunctional knotted or woven bag native to the Western New Guinea region, Indonesia. Its distinctive usage, which involves being hung from the head, is traditionally used to carry various goods, and also children. In 2012, noken was listed in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists as a cultural heritage of Indonesia. Women carrying noken are still a common sight in Wamena. In several areas of Central Papua and Highland Papua, noken – instead of the usual ballot box – is preferred as a way to place ballots, where it is recognized as a ballot tool and system where Big man (primarily the chieftains) cast vote for the tribe or noken gantung, where the tribe members and the chief collectively decide to vote unanimously in the regional leadership elections. Opponents to the system has challenged the use of noken as fraught with potential for abuse and have challenged it in Constitutional Court of Indonesia, although the court defended the limited use of noken for avoiding inter-tribal warfare, and regencies that have used One man, one vote system cannot return to noken system. - Noken atau minya adalah tas tradisional masyarakat Papua Pegunungan yang dibawa dengan menggunakan kepala dan terbuat dari serat kulit kayu. Sama dengan tas pada umumnya tas ini digunakan untuk membawa barang-barang kebutuhan sehari-hari. Masyarakat Papua biasanya menggunakannya untuk membawa hasil-hasil pertanian seperti sayuran, umbi-umbian dan juga untuk membawa barang-barang dagangan ke pasar. Karena keunikannya yang dibawa dengan kepala, noken ini di daftarkan ke UNESCO sebagai salah satu hasil karya tradisional dan warisan kebudayaan dunia. - Noken – wielofunkcyjna torba wykonywana techniką wiązania lub wyplatania z łyka lub liści przez ludność zamieszkującą prowincje Papua i Papua Zachodnia we wschodniej Indonezji. Na terenie obu prowincji wyróżnia się przynajmniej 250 grup etnicznych. Techniki wyrobu toreb noken różnią się w poszczególnych społecznościach. Włókno wyrabia się z gałęzi, łodyg, kory drzew lub krzewów opalanych w ogniu, namaczanych w wodzie i suszonych. Z drewnianych włókien uzyskuje się sznurek, który następnie często jest barwiony. Ze sznurka wyplatane są siateczkowe torby. Rzemiosło wyrobu nokenów wymaga dobrej zręczności manualnej, a nauka zajmuje kilka miesięcy. Nokeny używane są do przenoszenia płodów rolnych, ryb, drewna na opał, a także niemowląt i małych zwierząt. Noszone są z okazji tradycyjnych świąt, ważnych wydarzeń rodzinnych i ofiarowywane innym na znak pokoju. Uchwyt nokena zakładany jest na głowę – czoło, torba spoczywa wtedy na plecach i obie ręce są wolne. W 2012 roku rękodzieło wyrobu nokenów zostało wpisane na listę niematerialnego dziedzictwa wymagającego pilnej ochrony UNESCO. (pl)
