Lorient, 20 de agosto de 1930) es una investigadora de nacionalidad francesa dedicada a la biología y embriología Licenciada en ciencias naturales y más tarde doctora en 1964, comenzó su carrera como profesora entre los años (1954-1960). Investigadora en el CNRS (1960-1965) y posteriormente catedrática (1965-1971), fue seguidamente profesora titular de una cátedra en la Universidad de Nantes hasta finales de 1975. Directora del Instituto de embriología del CNRS y del Colegio de Francia (1975), más tarde ascendida a directora del Instituto (1976-1988) y seguidamente profesora en el Colegio de Francia. Ha recibido el raro honor de ser elegida miembro de la National Academy of Sciences americana. Es actualmente profesora honoraria del Colegio de Francia, secretaria perpetua de la Academia de las Ciencias Francesa. Nicole Le Douarin ha recibido numerosos premios y honores, como el Premio de la Academia de Ciencias en 1965 y la Medalla de Oro del CNRS en 1986. - Nicole Marthe Le Douarin (born 20 August 1930) is a developmental biologist known for her studies of chimeras, which have led to critical insights regarding higher animal nervous and immune systems. Le Douarin invented an embryo manipulation technology to produce chimeric embryos, from chicken and quails. Her research has shed light on the development of higher animal nervous and immune systems. She showed that precursor cells within the neural crest were multipotent. Her technique has also permitted her to shed light on the development of the blood and immune systems. Her work on antero-posterior patterning of the vertebrate digestive tract laid the grounds for future work, leading to a better understanding of antero-posterior patterning in the digestive tract.
