- It does, but it's also a hypocorism of "Anthony". How do you know the songwriter just didn't need a rhyme for "pony" and figured naming the guy Anthony would work. There aren't a whole lot of rhymes for "pony". I mea "bony boy" doesn't work. "Phony boy" also. "Ho'ny [=horny] boy" works, but... And I mean, cowboys are rough an tough but not really "tony" usually. Also, if it's not a name, why it capitalized? Source please. (en)
