- Michael Somogyi fue un profesor húngaro-estadounidense de bioquímica de la Universidad Washington y el Hospital Judío de San Luis que preparó el primer tratamiento con insulina. Se administró esa sustancia por primera vez en octubre de 1922 en los Estados Unidos a un niño con diabetes. Mostró que un exceso de insulina hace la diabetes inestable, reacción que se conoce como fenómeno de Somogyi e hizo pública esa información en 1938. (es)

He prepared the first insulin treatment given to a child with diabetes in the USA in October 1922. Somogyi later showed that excessive insulin makes diabetes unstable in the Chronic Somogyi rebound to which he gave his name. (en)
