- Der Mesochora-Stausee (griechisch Τεχνητή Λίμνη Μεσοχώρας Techniti Limni Mesochoras) ist eine große Talsperre in Griechenland. Sie wurde zwischen 1996 und 2001 gebaut, aber aufgrund von Schwierigkeiten bei der Genehmigung noch nicht in Betrieb genommen. Die Inbetriebnahme des Wasserkraftwerks war für 2010 geplant gewesen, wurde jedoch bisher nicht vorgenommen (Stand: Mai 2014). Die Talsperre ist nach dem nahegelegenen Ort benannt. Der Staudamm ist ein Steinschüttdamm mit einer Betonabdichtung auf der Wasserseite.Der Stausee hat ein Gesamtvolumen von 625 Millionen Kubikmetern. Die Angabe von 228 Mio. m³ bezieht sich wahrscheinlich auf den Nutzraum.Das etwa 13 km flussab nahe dem Ort Kapsala gelegene Wasserkraftwerk, das von der DEI betrieben wird, hat zwei Francis-Turbinen mit einer Leistung von 2 Mal 81 MW. Sie wurden von Koncar aus Kroatien geliefert. Die Talsperre ist ein Teil des Wasserkraft-Ausbaus des Acheloos, eines der größten Flüsse in Griechenland. Weitere Bestandteile sind die Sykia-Talsperre mit einer 17,4 km langen Überleitung nach Thessaloniki, die mit einem 135 m hohen Staudamm und die Pyli-Talsperre mit einem 90 m hohen Damm. Nachdem alle Arbeiten rund um das Acheloos-Thessalien-Projekt im Jahre 2010 mit einem Baustopp belegt wurden, hat der griechische Staatsrat im Januar 2014 entschieden, das Bewässerungsprojekt nicht weiterzuverfolgen. Natur- und Vogelschützer feierten den Schiedsspruch als entscheidende Wende im Kampf um das Wasser des Acheloos und richten den Fokus ihrer Arbeit auf die Renaturierung der entstandenen Umweltschäden.Die DEI strebt eine Lösung des Mesochora-Damms aus dem stillgelegten Bewässerungsprojekt an. Ziel ist eine vom Gesamtprojekt unabhängige Beurteilung des Staudamms, die in einer Betriebsfreigabe resultiert. (de)
- Το Φράγμα Μεσοχώρας είναι λιθόρριπτο φράγμα με ανάντη πλάκα σκυροδέματος στον ποταμό Αχελώο κοντά στη Μεσοχώρα στα Τρίκαλα, Ελλάδα. Το φράγμα ύψους 150 μέτρων είναι μέρος της Εκτροπής του Αχελώου Ποταμού που προορίζεται να εκτρέψει ένα τμήμα του Αχελώου δυτικά για να αρδεύσει 590.000-940.000 στρέμματα στις πεδιάδες της Θεσσαλίας. Το έργο περιλαμβάνει τα φράγματα Μεσοχώρας, Συκιάς, Μουζακίου και Πύλης μαζί με ένα κανάλι μήκους 17,4 χλμ. Το φράγμα Μεσοχώρας ολοκληρώθηκε τον Ιανουάριο του 2001, αλλά ο ταμιευτήρας δεν έχει ακόμη καλυφθεί με νερό, και ακολούθως ο σταθμός παραγωγής ενέργειας δεν έχει τεθεί σε λειτουργία λόγω δικαστικών διαμαχών. - The Mesochora Dam is concrete-face rock-fill dam on the Acheloos River near Mesochora in Trikala, Greece. The 150 m (490 ft) tall dam is part of the Acheloos River Diversion which is intended to divert a portion of the Acheloos west to irrigate 240,000–380,000 ha (590,000–940,000 acres) in the Thessaly plains. The project includes the Mesochora, Sykia, and along with a 17.4 km (10.8 mi) long channel. The idea for an Acheloos to Thessaly diversion project was first envisioned in the 1930s but a lack of funding precluded construction. Interest in the project was revived in 1984 and what was supposed to be a small dam at Mesochora apart from the diversion project was increased in size to support to river diversion. Over the next several years there was a series of legal battles that led to construction stalling, most recently in 2005. Opponents of the scheme cite significant changes to the environment, flooding of villages and that the scheme will divert 600,000,000 m3 (490,000 acre⋅ft) of water annually from the Acheloos. Supporters call on the benefit to the lucrative cotton crops it will help irrigate and the dam's planned 162 MW hydroelectric power plant. The Mesochora Dam was completed in January 2001 but the reservoir has yet to be filled and the power plant has subsequently not been commissioned due to legal battles. (en)
