Carminati was investigated for match fixing in 2012. In 2014 he was arrested with 36 others on allegations of running a corrupt network that infiltrated Rome's public administration. He was charged with fraud, money laundering, embezzlement, and the bribing of public officials. In 2017, Carminati was sentenced to 20 years in jail. The sentence was revoked in 2018 and he is free since 2020. (en)

Avvicinatosi in gioventù agli ambienti dell'estrema destra fino a diventare esponente del gruppo eversivo d'ispirazione neofascista Nuclei Armati Rivoluzionari, veterano della guerra civile libanese, successivamente si è legato all'organizzazione mafiosa romana nota come Banda della Magliana per poi - alla metà degli anni settanta - frequentare gli ambienti dell'eversione politica e del crimine organizzato. È stato arrestato nel dicembre 2014 nell'ambito dell'inchiesta Mafia Capitale e condannato in appello nel 2018 a 14 anni e sei mesi di reclusione; la condanna è stata poi annullata, con rinvio per la riformulazione della pena, nel giudizio in cassazione. Il 16 giugno 2020 fu di nuovo libero per scadenza dei termini di custodia cautelare. (it)
