- Marcel Prawy (als Marcell Horace Frydmann Ritter von Prawy * 29. Dezember 1911 in Wien; † 23. Februar 2003 ebenda) war ein österreichischer Dramaturg, Opernkenner und Opernkritiker mit amerikanischer Staatsbürgerschaft. Marcel Prawys Großvater Marcell Frydmann war 1899 mit dem Territorialprädikat von Prawy (polnisch für „der Gerechte“) in den erblichen österreichischen Ritterstand erhoben worden. Nach dem Untergang der österreichisch-ungarischen Monarchie ging der Familie mit dem Adelsaufhebungsgesetz 1919 die Nobilitierung verloren. Im Oktober 1938 emigrierte Prawy als Marcell Frydmann in die Vereinigten Staaten, dort nannte er sich Marcell Horace Frydmann Prawy und wurde 1941 unter dem Namen Marcell Frydman-Prawy registriert. Nach seiner Rückkehr nach Österreich wurde er ab 1955 unter dem Namen Marcel Prawy bekannt. (de)

Post la pereo de la aŭstrohungara monarĥio la familio perdis sian staton de per la nuligo de la nobeleco en 1919. Oktobron de 1938 Prawy elmigris kiel Marcell Frydmann en Usonon, tie li nomiĝis Marcell Horace Frydmann Prawy kaj estis en 1941 registrata kun la nomo Marcell Frydman-Prawy. - Marcel Prawy (birth name: Marcel Horace Frydmann, Ritter von Prawy) (born 29 December 1911, in Vienna – died 23 February 2003, in Vienna) was an Austrian dramaturg, opera connoisseur and opera critic. He was born into a Jewish Austro-Hungarian noble family and studied law, but his life belonged to the opera. He became secretary of the tenor Jan Kiepura and they both emigrated to the United States when persecution of the Austrian Jews became unbearable in the late 1930s. With the help of his confidante Mártha Eggerth (Jan Kiepura’s wife), Prawy became acquainted with American musicals and music in general. After the end of the Second World War, Prawy returned to Vienna and brought with him the musical Kiss Me, Kate. It was received by the Viennese with great reservation as they feared the arrival of the American-style musical would spell the end of the traditional Viennese operetta. Nonetheless, Prawy succeeded, and was considered henceforth as the one who made German language musicals acceptable and popular. (en)
