- Η μαντινάδα ή πατινάδα ή κοτσάκι είναι ποίημα που αποτελείται από δυο στίχους που συνήθως είναι δεκαπεντασύλλαβοι σε ομοιοκαταληξία ή και τέσσερα ημιστίχια που δεν ομοιοκαταληκτούν απαραίτητα. Αποτελεί μέσο αυθόρμητης λαϊκής έκφρασης σε αρκετά μέρη της Ελλάδας, κυρίως όμως ως κατηγορία του νησιώτικου ελληνικού τραγουδιού στην Κρήτη, που είναι ξακουστή για τις μαντινάδες της. Αυτό το είδος της έμετρης λαϊκής έκφρασης στις Κυκλάδες και ιδιαίτερα στην Απείρανθο της Νάξου λέγεται "κοτσάκι". Αντίστοιχα ονόματα αυτού του είδους είναι επίσης τα , οι , οι τα "στιχάκια" ή τα "δίστιχα" άλλων περιοχών της Ελλάδας. Ειδικότερα, η κρητική μαντινάδα διακρίνεται για την ιδιάζουσα έκφραση, το μεστό της φράσης και αντανακλά τα αισθήματα, τη σκέψη και τη ζωή του κρητικού λαού. Αντλεί τη θεματολογία της από ποικίλους τομείς και ανάλογα διακρίνονται σε σκωπτικές μαντινάδες, ερωτικές, ευκαιριακές και φιλοσοφικές. Είτε ως φιλοσοφία, είτε εκφράζοντας παράπονο , η μαντινάδα επί αιώνες συνοδεύει τους Κρητικούς σε όλες τους τις στιγμές και στις εκδηλώσεις, στο σημείο που όσοι δεν είναι από την Κρήτη την θεωρούν αποκλειστικά κρητική ποιητική δημιουργία. It is prominent in several parts of Greece, especially on the island of Crete where mantinades are performed in accompaniment of the Cretan lyra and Cretan laouto (a stringed instrument resembling lute).The word is derived from Venetian matinada, meaning "morning song". They typically consist of Cretan rhyming couplets, often improvised during dance music. The rhymed Cretan poetry of the Renaissance, especially the verse epic Erotokritos, is reminiscent of the mantinada, and couplets from Erotokritos have been used as mantinades. Mantinades have either love or satire as their topics. They are invariably composed in dekapentasyllabos verse and are often antiphonal, i.e. a verse elicits a response and this leads to another response and so on. (en)

É comum em várias parte da Grécia, especialmente na ilha de Creta, onde as mantinadas são cantadas com acompanhamento de e laouto cretense (um instrumento de cordas aparentado com o alaúde). O termo deriva do veneziano matinada ("canção matinal"). A mantinada cretense típica consiste em dísticos em rima , frequentemente improsivados com música de dança. A poesia em rima cretense da Renascença, especialmente os versos épicos (Ἐρωτόκριτος), é reminiscente da mantinada e dísticos dessa obra têm sido usados como mantinades. As mantinades falam geralmente de amor ou sátira. São invariavelmente compostos em versos e é usual serem antifónicos, ou seja um verso provoca uma resposta e por sua vez esta leva a outra respostas, e assim sucessivamente. (pt)
