- The Man of Mode, o también titulado como Sir Fopling Flutter es una comedia de la Restauración de George Etherege, escrita en 1676. La obra está ambientada en Restauración inglesa sigue al mujeriego Dorimant mientras intenta ligarse a la joven heredera Harriet y desconectarse de su romance con la Sra. Loveit. A pesar del subtítulo, el petimetre Sir Fopling es solo uno de varios personajes secundarios; Dorimant es el protagonista . El personaje Dorimant puede haberse basado en John Wilmot, segundo conde de Rochester, aunque no hay evidencia de esto. El papel fue interpretado por primera vez por Thomas Betterton y Sir Fopling, el extravagante petimetre del momento, por William Smith. En 2007, el National Theatre produjo una producción de vestimenta moderna de la obra, dirigida por Nicholas Hytner y protagonizada por Tom Hardy como Dorimant. The play is set in Restoration London and follows the womanizer Dorimant as he tries to win over the young heiress Harriet and to disengage himself from his affair with Mrs. Loveit. Despite the subtitle, the fop Sir Fopling is only one of several minor characters; the rake Dorimant is the protagonist. The character of Dorimant may have been based on John Wilmot, 2nd Earl of Rochester, though there is no evidence of this. The part was first played by Thomas Betterton and Sir Fopling, the flamboyant fop of the hour, by William Smith. In 2007, the National Theatre produced a modern dress production of the play, directed by Nicholas Hytner and starring Tom Hardy as Dorimant.
