- Die Lokomotive ist ein markanter Kletterfelsen nördlich von Kurort Rathen in der Sächsischen Schweiz. Der auch als Große Ruine bezeichnete Felsen ist ca. 30 m hoch und untergliedert sich in zwei Teile, die als Lokomotive-Dom und Lokomotive-Esse bezeichnet werden. Der Grat zwischen beiden wird als Kesselgrat bezeichnet, der Felszacken direkt neben der Esse als Pfeife. Kurzzeitig befand sich auf dem Dom auch eine Wetterfahne in Gestalt eines Rades. Die Lokomotive erhebt sich auf dem Massiv der . Der heutige Name des Felsens entstand in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Wilhelm Leberecht Götzinger hatte ihn noch als Große Ruine bezeichnet, spätere Namensgebungen waren Waldschlößchen, Raubschloss und um 1880 noch Kamel. Der Dom der Lokomotive wurde bereits 1886 erstmals durch Friedrich Hartmann und Robert Kappmeier bestiegen. In der Geschichte des Kletterns in der Sächsischen Schweiz kennzeichnet die am 7. Juni 1903 von Albert Kunze und Oliver Perry-Smith durchgeführte Erstbesteigung der Esse den erstmaligen Schritt in das Klettern in der freien Wand. Bis dahin hatten sich die Kletterer vor allem an Kaminen und Rissen orientiert. Die Erstbegehung der heute im Schwierigkeitsgrad V eingestuften und als Lokomotivüberfall bezeichneten Kletterroute auf die Esse löste eine umfassende, bis 1910 dauernde Erschließungsperiode in der Sächsischen Schweiz aus, in der Kletterer wie Kunze, Perry-Smith oder Rudolf Fehrmann viele wichtige Klettergipfel, wie die Barbarine, die Große Herkulessäule, die Jungfer oder den Teufelsturm erstmals bestiegen. The rock, which resembles a steam locomotive in appearance, is also known as Große Ruine, is about 30 metres high and is divided into two parts: known as Lokomotive-Dom ("Locomotive Dome") and Lokomotive-Esse ("Locomotive Chimney"). The ridge between the two is called the Kesselgrat ("Boiler Ridge"), the rock teeth next to the Esse as Pfeife ("Whistle"). For a short time there was a weather vane on the dome in the shape of a wheel. The Lokomotive rises on the massif of the Honigsteine. The Dome of the Lokomotive was first climbed in 1886 by Friedrich Hartmann and Robert Kappmeier. In the history of free climbing in Saxon Switzerland the climb of the Esse on 7 June 1903 by Albert Kunze and Oliver Perry-Smith was the first ascent of the Esse and the first step in climbing the open face. Until then climbers had focussed on chimneys and crevices. The first ascent of the grade V Lokomotivüberfall climbing route on the Esse unleashed an intensive period of climbing in Saxon Switzerland that lasted until 1910, during which climbers like Kunze, Perry-Smith and Rudolf Fehrmann made the first ascent of many important climbing peaks, like the Barbarine, the Große Herkulessäule, the Jungfer or the Teufelsturm.
