- La chanson de Siegfried à la peau de corne (en allemand, Hurnen Seyfrit) est une chanson médiévale rattachée au cycle de Siegfried, ou Sigurd. Sa première édition connue est imprimée à Nuremberg vers 1530. Douze exemplaires de ce texte sont conservés, dans plusieurs éditions datées de 1561 à 1642. Cette version est plus proche de la mythologie germanique originelle. Elle présente un monde peuplé de nains, de dragons et de géants. Elle s'attache à la jeunesse de Siegfried. Siegfried a été élevé par un forgeron, a tué un dragon et a rendu sa peau invincible (en obtenant que sa peau soit aussi dure que la corne (hürnen)). Ensuite, la chanson raconte comment il a sauvé Kriemhild, fille du roi burgonde Gybich, avec l'aide du nain Eugel, d'un homme maudit qui s'est transformé en dragon. Ce faisant, Siegfried combat le géant Kuperan. Battant le dragon, Siegfried acquiert le trésor des Nibelungen et épouse Kriemhild. En langue française, ce texte a été traduit par Claude Lecouteux, puis édité une première fois chez Le Porte-Glaive en 1995, et une seconde fois, avec des ajouts, aux éditions La Völva fin 2015. (fr)
- Das Lied vom Hürnen Seyfrid (the song of horn-skinned Siegfried), or Hürnen Seyfrid for short, is an anonymous Early New High German heroic ballad. The poem concerns the adventures of young Siegfried, hero of the Nibelungenlied and an important figure in Germanic heroic legend. It preserves traditions about Siegfried that are otherwise only known from Old Norse sources and thus attest their existence in oral traditions about Siegfried that circulated outside of the Nibelungenlied in Germany. Hürnen Seyfrid tells how Siegfried was raised by a smith, killed a dragon, and made his skin invincible (got his skin as hard as horn (hürnen)). Afterwards it tells how he rescued Kriemhild, daughter of the Burgundian king Gybich, with the help of the dwarf Eugel from a cursed man who has transformed into a dragon. In doing so, Siegfried fights the giant Kuperan. In defeating the dragon, Siegfried acquires the treasure of the Nibelungen and marries Kriemhild. The poem, together with another heroic ballad, the Jüngeres Hildebrandslied, is the piece of German heroic tradition that remained popular the longest and the only part of the tradition surrounding the Nibelungenlied to enter early print culture. The poem was printed into the eighteenth century, and a prose version continued to be printed into the nineteenth century. (en)
