- The law of contagion is a superstitious folk belief that suggests that once two people or objects have been in contact a magical link persists between them unless or until a formal cleansing, consecration, exorcism, or other act of banishing breaks the non-material bond. The first description of the law of contagion appeared in The Golden Bough by James George Frazer. Bonewits and Bonewits have claimed parallels in quantum physics. (en)
- Contactmagie (Engels: "Contagious magic") verwijst naar een vorm van magisch denken waarbij geloofd wordt dat er een magische band bestaat tussen twee objecten of personen die met elkaar in contact zijn geweest. Dingen die eens met elkaar geassocieerd waren kunnen elkaar volgens deze magische wet nadat ze van elkaar gescheiden zijn wederzijds beïnvloeden. Zo zal wat een object wordt aangedaan (bijvoorbeeld een kledingstuk of een haar) ook invloed uitoefenen op de eigenaar van het object.
