Sasaki is the first of four men ever to hold all three of puroresu's major heavyweight titles (the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, the Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship, and the GHC Heavyweight Championship), the others being Yoshihiro Takayama, Keiji Muto, and Satoshi Kojima - totalling seven world championship reigns. Sasaki also competed in MMA and won both fights by submission, remaining undefeated in mixed martial arts competition. (en)

Il commence sa carrière après s'être entrainé auprès de Riki Chōshū et commence sa carrière à la Japan Pro Wrestling qui est alors une fédération lié à la All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW). Quand la Japan Pro Wrestling ferme ses portes en 1987, il rejoint la New Japan Pro Wrestling. Il y remporte le championnat par équipes International Wrestling Grand Prix (IWGP) à sept reprises (deux fois avec Hiroshi Hase, deux fois avec Road Warrior Hawk, une fois avec Riki Chōshū, Kazuo Yamazaki et Shiro Koshinaka). En 1997, la New Japan le met en avant en faisant de lui le vainqueur du tournoi G1 Climax en 1997 puis en 2000 puis son champion poids lourd IWGP à cinq reprises. Il retourne à la All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) en 2003. Il y remporte le titre de champion poids lourd Triple Crown ainsi que le championnat par équipes All Asia avec Katsuhiko Nakajima. Pendant qu'il travaille dans cette fédération, il fonde sa propre fédération qu'il nomme Kensuke Office. Il part à la Pro Wrestling NOAH en 2008 et y devient champion poids lourd Global Honor Crowned (GHC) et champion par équipes GHC avec Takeshi Morishima. Il quitte la Pro Wrestling NOAH en 2013 avant d'arrêter sa carrière en 2015. En dehors du catch, il est le mari de la catcheuse Akira Hokuto. (fr)

È stato anche un lottatore di arti marziali miste. Dopo aver debuttato nel 1986 e dopo alcuni anni di gavetta, ha raggiunta la fama nella federazione di debutto, la NJPW, ove ha conquistato, tra i vari titoli e tornei vinti, per 5 volte il titolo mondiale dei pesi massimi ed ha formato, lottando con il nome di Power Warrior assieme a Hawk dei Legion of Doom (per l'occasione rinominato "Hawk Warrior"), una coppia di successo nota come "Heel Raisers". Grazie agli accordi interpromozionali della NJPW, ha potuto competere anche nell'americana WCW, vincendo il WCW United States Championship. In seguito ha lottato per varie federazioni, fondandone anche una propria, il Kensuke Office. Ha il primato di essere stato il primo atleta a vincere il titolo massimo delle tre principali federazioni giapponesi, la NJPW, la AJPW e la Pro Wrestling NOAH. (it)
