- The Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics (Russian: Институт прикладной математики им. М.В.Келдыша) is a research institute specializing in computational mathematics. It was established to solve computational tasks related to government programs of nuclear and fusion energy, space research and missile technology. The Institute is a part of the Department of Mathematical Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The main direction of activity of the institute is the use of computer technology to solve complex scientific and technical issues of practical importance. Since 2016, development of mathematical and computational methods for biological research, as well as a direct solution to the problems of computational biology with the use of such methods, has also been included in the circle of scientific activities of the institute. Kéldysha) de la Academia Rusa de las Ciencias es un instituto de investigación especializado en matemática computacional. El instituto se encuentra en Moscú, y se llama así en honor a Mstislav Kéldysh (científico soviético en el campo de las matemáticas y la mecánica). Se creó en 1966 cuando se separó del Instituto Matemático Steklov. Ya cuando era el Departamento de Matemática Aplicada del Instituto Steklov había llevado a cabo investigaciones punteras en el campo de la exploración espacial: en 1953 desarrolló el método de descenso balístico para naves espaciales que se empleó el 12 de abril de 1961 para permitir el regreso de Yuri Gagarin a la Tierra; y en 1957 se calculó allí la órbita del Sputnik 1 a partir de los procesos informáticos de datos observacionales. М.В.Келдыша) est un institut de recherche rattaché à l'Académie des sciences de Russie spécialisé dans le domaine des mathématiques appliquées à l'informatique. L'institut situé à Moscou en Russie porte le nom du mathématicien russe Mstislav Keldych. Il résulte d'une scission en 1966 de l'Institut de mathématiques Steklov. Cet ancien département de l'institut Steklov avait été créé en 1953 pour résoudre les problèmes mathématiques complexes soulevés par les programmes nationaux portant sur les missiles balistiques et les applications dans le domaine de l'atome. Pour remplir cet objectif l'institut a développé à l'époque à la fois des équipements informatiques et des logiciels. Il a joué un rôle remarqué dans le domaine de l'exploration spatiale : en 1953 il modélise la descente balistique d'un vaisseau spatial qui sera mise en pratique le 12 avril 1961 par Youri Gagarine lors de son retour sur Terre et en 1957 il calcule les caractéristiques de l'orbite de Spoutnik 1 à l'aide d'un ordinateur en exploitant les paramètres déduits d'observations effectuées par des moyens optiques. Келдыша РАН (ИПМ РАН) был создан для решения расчётных задач, связанных с государственными программами атомной и термоядерной энергетики, исследования космического пространства и ракетной техники. Институт входит в состав Отделения математических наук Российской академии наук. Основное направление деятельности института состоит в использовании вычислительной техники для решения сложных научно-технических проблем, имеющих важное практическое значение. С 2016 года в сферу научной деятельности института вошла разработка математических и вычислительных методов для биологических исследований, а также непосредственное решение задач вычислительной биологии с использованием таких методов.
