- Ο Κατσικάς είναι Δημοτική Κοινότητα του Δήμου Ιωαννιτών που υπάγεται στο νομό Ιωαννίνων ο οποίος ανήκει διοικητικά στην περιφέρεια της Ήπειρου. Οι πληθυσμός του ανέρχεται σε 3.885 κατοίκους. Ο οικισμός αναγνωρίσθηκε ως κοινότητα έξι χρόνια μετά την απελευθέρωση των Ιωαννίνων, στις 7 Αυγούστου 1919. Στο παρελθόν ο πληθυσμός του χωριού, όπως αναφέρουν διάφοροι ιστοριοδίφες, μεταβαλλόταν συνεχώς ακολούθωντας αυξητική τάση. Το πότε πρωτοϊδρύθηκε το χωριό δεν είναι γνωστό, όσο για την ονομασία οι απόψεις διίστανται και γύρω από την ονοματολογία έχουν γραφτεί ακόμη και προφορικές παραδόσεις. Η παράδοση αναφέρει ότι το όνομα το πήρε από κάποιον ο οποίος φύλαγε κατσίκια δηλαδή «Κατσικάς». Οι κάτοικοι του χωριού ασχολούνται με τη γεωργία, την πτηνοτροφία και άλλα επαγγέλματα. Ο Κατσικάς από πολύ παλιά παρουσίαζε ανεβασμένο μορφωτικό επίπεδο. Στα χρόνια της Τουρκοκρατίας τον δάσκαλο τον πλήρωναν οι ίδιοι οι κάτοικοι και η Μητρόπολη. Από τον Κατσικά αναδείχθηκε ο λαμπρός επιστήμονας που γεννήθηκε το 1840. Απεφοίτησε από τη "Ζωσιμαία σχολή" στη συνέχεια φοίτησε στο "Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών" και μετά στη Γερμανία. Με την επιστροφή του έγινε Δ/ντης στο "Διδασκαλείο Σερρών". Έγραψε πολλές επιστημονικές εργασίες και μια απ’ αυτές ήταν η «Περί μορφώσεως Ελλήνων διδασκάλων», που τυπώθηκε στην Αθήνα το 1888. Δίκαια καυχώνται οι Κατσικιώτες για τον άνθρωπο που ξεπήδησε στην εποχή του σκοταδισμού. Ο τέως Δήμος Παμβώτιδος είχε έως το 2011 την έδρα του στον Κατσικά λόγω θέσης, αφού αποτελούσε κομβικό σημείο για τα υπόποιπα Δημοτικά Διαμερίσματά του. (el)
- Katsikas (Greek: Κατσικάς) is the largest village of the municipal unit Pamvotida, in the Ioannina regional unit, Epirus, northern Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Ioannina. Its population is 3,885 (2011). It was recognized in the community after the liberation of Ioannina six years later on August 7, 1919. But the village he became and from older times.
