- Ján Ševčík (13. února 1896 Brezolupy – 6. března 1965 Bratislava) byl slovenský a československý politik, poválečný poslanec Prozatímního Národního shromáždění a Ústavodárného Národního shromáždění za Demokratickou stranu, člen Sboru pověřenců a místopředseda čs. vlády. Po únorovém převratu v roce 1948 předseda Strany slovenské obrody, za níž zasedal v Národním shromáždění republiky Československé. Po roce 1952 politicky pronásledován a vězněn. (cs)
- Ján Ševčík (Brezolupy, 13 February 1896 - Bratislava, 6 March 1965) was a Czechoslovak politician. Ševčík participated in the Czechoslovak Legion during World War I. After the war he studied law and from 1926 to 1934 represented the Slovak People's Party (incl. as secretary of the faction). After that, he worked in the agrarian sector. From 1939 to 1942 he was the head of the YMCA administration in Bratislava. Ševčík was an opponent of fascism and therefore joined the Slovak résistance movement. The Slovak résistance opposed the nominally independent Slovak republic that was established in 1939 by monseigneur Jozef Tiso but to a large extent controlled by Germans. In 1944 the Slovak National Uprising took place, in which Ševčík participated. The résistance forces met an early success in fighting with Slovak fascists and German troops, but later had to retreat. After World War II Ševčík joined the Democratic Party (DS). The DS won the 1946 election in the Slovak part of Czechoslovakia and thereafter had to share power with the Communist Party of Slovakia (KSS). Ševčík became a deputy once more. The communists carried out a 'great purge' of DS members in 1946–1948. After the communist coup d'état in February 1948, the DS was banned and replaced by the Party of Slovak Revival (SSO), a pro-communist satellite party. Ševčík became the chairman of the SSO and at the same time vice-premier in Antonín Zápotocký's cabinet. In 1952 Ján Ševčík was arrested and accused of opposition to the socialist development of Czechoslovakia. He was sentenced to imprisonment. In 1960 he was released. On 6 March 1965 Ševčík died. He was re-habilitated soon after that. (en)

Ševčík maakte tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog deel uit van het Tsjecho-Slowaaks Legioen (strijders voor een onafhankelijk Tsjecho-Slowakije). Na de oorlog studeerde hij rechten en van 1926 tot 1934 had hij voor de Slowaakse Volkspartij (HSL'S) zitting in het parlement (onder andere als fractiesecretaris). Nadien was hij in de agrarische sector werkzaam. Van 1939 tot 1942 was hij hoofd van de administratie van de YMCA in Bratislava. Ševčík was een groot tegenstander van het fascisme en trad daarom toe tot het Slowaakse verzet. Het Slowaakse verzet was tegen de "onafhankelijke" Slowaakse republiek die in 1939 door monseigneur Jozef Tiso was gesticht maar in feite door de Duitsers werd beheerst. In 1944 vond de plaats, waaraan Ševčík deelnam. De opstandelingen boekten kortstondig succes in hun verzet tegen Slowaakse fascisten en de Duitse bezettingstroepen, maar moesten zich later terugtrekken. Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog sloot Ševčík zich aan bij de (DS). De DS won de verkiezingen van 1946 in het Slowaakse deel van Tsjecho-Slowakije en deelde daarna de macht met de Communistische Partij van Slowakije (KSS). Ševčík nam opnieuw zitting in het parlement. De communisten voerden in de periode 1946-1948 een grote zuivering door binnen de DS. Na de communistische staatsgreep van februari 1948 werd de DS verboden en vervangen door de Partij van de Slowaakse Herrijzenis (SSO). Ševčík werd partijvoorzitter van de SSO en tevens vicepremier in de regering van . In 1952 werd Ján Ševčík gearresteerd en beschuldigd van tegenwerking van de socialistische ontwikkeling in Tsjecho-Slowakije. Hij werd tot een gevangenisstraf veroordeeld. In 1960 kwam hij weer vrij. Op 6 maart 1965 overleed hij. Kort daarna werd Ševčík postuum gerehabiliteerd. (nl)
