- Johann Baptist Gradl (25 March 1904 in Berlin – 2 July 1988 in Berlin), was a German politician and member of the Christian Democratic Union. During the Weimar Republic Gradl was a member of the Zentrumspartei and he was its president in Berlin-Kreuzberg from 1930 to 1933. In 1945 Gradl was among the founders and the leaders of the East German Christian Democratic Union in Berlin and the Soviet occupation zone. At the end of 1947 he was dismissed by the Soviet occupation forces and he joined the CDU in West Berlin. From 1957 to 1980, he was a member of the German Bundestag. Between 1965 and 1966 he was federal government minister for displaced and war-damaged persons. In 1966 he became federal minister for all-German issues in the second cabinet of chancellor Ludwig Erhard. After Erhard's death he became father of the house of the Bundestag. He was the first father of the house born in the 20th century. Gradl was married to Marianne Brecour, and they had four children. He was a member of the Catholic parish of Mater Dolorosa in Berlin-Lankwitz and he is buried in a tomb of honour in Berlin-Tempelhof. (en)

Journaliste, puis banquier, il appartient au Parti du centre tout au long de la République de Weimar. Au cours de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il sert brièvement dans la Wehrmacht. À l'issue du conflit, il s'installe à Berlin-Ouest, reprend son métier de journaliste et s'implique dans les structures en faveur de la réunification allemande. Membre de la CDU dès 1945, il est élu douze ans plus tard député au Bundestag. En 1965, le chancelier Ludwig Erhard le nomme ministre fédéral des Expulsés. À la rupture de la coalition au pouvoir, en 1966, il prend l'intérim du ministère fédéral des Questions pan-allemandes. Il quitte l'exécutif avec l'investiture de Kurt Georg Kiesinger. Il continue ensuite de s'impliquer dans la politique allemande, présidant la commission parlementaire dédiée ou la CDU Exil. Il quitte la vie politique en 1980. (fr)

Tra il 1965 e il 1966 è stato ministro del governo federale per le persone trasferite e danneggiate dalla guerra. Nel 1966 divenne ministro federale per tutti i problemi tedeschi nel secondo Governo del cancelliere Ludwig Erhard. In seguito alla morte di Erhard divenne il membro più anziano del parlamento.
