- Jimmy Gourley (James Pasco Gourley Jr.; * 9. Juni 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri; † 7. Dezember 2008 in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges) war ein US-amerikanischer Jazzgitarrist. Gourley wuchs in einer Musikerfamilie auf; sein Vater gründete 1936 das Monarch Conservatory of Music in Hammond. Anfang der 1940er Jahre trat er mit einer Band des gleichaltrigen Lee Konitz auf. 1943 bis 1944 trat er mit verschiedenen Formationen in der Umgebung von Los Angeles auf, bevor er bis 1946 bei der Kriegsmarine diente. Nach seiner Rückkehr wurde er in Chicago Mitglied einer Band von . Später arbeitete er auch mit Gene Ammons, Sonny Stitt, Doug Mettome, Lou Levy, Anita O’Day sowie dem Duo Jackie Cain und Roy Kral. 1951 zog Gourley nach Paris, wo er vor allem mit Henri Renaud auftrat und Aufnahmen mit Zoot Sims, Gigi Gryce, Clifford Brown und Roy Haynes auftrat. 1958 trat er mehrere Monate lang mit Art Simmons auf; Anfang der 1960er Jahre arbeitete er mit Kenny Clarke, Stan Getz, Lester Young, Zoot Sims, J. J. Johnson und Bud Powell. 1964 unternahm er eine Europatournee mit einem eigenen Quartett. 1966 trat er im Trio mit Lou Bennett (später mit Eddy Louiss) und Kenny Clarke im Chat qui pêche auf. Von 1970 bis 1972 lebte Gourley auf den Kanarischen Inseln; nach seiner Rückkehr nach Frankreich trat er in verschiedenen Formationen u. a. im Pariser Club Saint-Germain auf. In den 1980er Jahren arbeitete er im Trio mit Pierre Michelot und (bzw. Philippe Combelle). 1986 trat er in New York, Chicago und Los Angeles auf und spielte Aufnahmen mit Marc Johnson, Victor Lewis, Ralph Moore und Don Sickler ein. (de)

- James Pasco Gourley, Jr. (June 9, 1926 – December 7, 2008) was an American jazz guitarist who spent most of his life in Paris. Gourley was born in St. Louis in 1926. He met saxophonist Lee Konitz in Chicago when both were members of the same high school band. He credits Konitz with encouraging him to become a serious musician. Gourley's father started the Monarch Conservatory of Music in Hammond, Indiana, though he didn't teach, and he bought Gourley his first guitar. Gourley took his first guitar classes at the school. He became interested in jazz while listening to the radio, enjoying in particular Nat King Cole. For his first professional experience as a performer, he dropped out of high school to play with a jazz band in Oklahoma City. From 1944–1946, Gourley served in the U.S. Navy. After he returned to Chicago, he met guitarist Jimmy Raney and wanted to play like him. He worked in bars and clubs with Jackie Cain & Roy Kral, Anita O'Day, Sonny Stitt, and Gene Ammons. Through the G.I. Bill, he received tuition for three years to any college in the world. Beginning in 1951, Gourley spent the rest of his life in France, working with Henri Renaud, Lou Bennett, Kenny Clarke, Richard Galliano, Stéphane Grappelli, Bobby Jaspar, Eddy Louiss, Martial Solal, and Barney Wilen. He played with American musicians who were passing through, including Bob Brookmeyer, Clifford Brown, Stan Getz, Gigi Gryce, Roy Haynes, Lee Konitz, Bud Powell, Zoot Sims, Lucky Thompson, and Lester Young.
