- Józef Brudziński (Josef von Brudzinski, * 26. Januar 1874 in /Plock; † 18. Dezember 1917 in Warschau) war ein polnischer Kinderarzt. Józef Brudziński studierte Medizin in Dorpat und Moskau, wo er seinen Abschluss 1897 machte. Er wandte sich der Kinderheilkunde zu und war Schüler bei (* 1838) in Krakau, später arbeitete er mit Theodor Escherich in Graz, sowie mit Jacques-Joseph Grancher (1843–1907), Antoine Bernard-Jean Marfan (1858–1942) und (1849–1933) in Paris. 1903 wurde er an das Anne-Marie Kinderhospital in Łódź berufen, eine Einrichtung, aus der er ein Krankenhaus machte. 1910 wechselte Brudziński nach Warschau, wo er mit Hilfe der Philanthropin ein Kinderkrankenhaus nach eigenen Plänen errichten konnte. Nach der deutschen Besetzung Polens war er politisch aktiv und setzte sich für die Wiedererrichtung einer polnischen Universität in Warschau ein, deren Eröffnungs-Rektor er 1915 war. Brudzińskis wichtigste Arbeiten betrafen die Darmflora, Reflexe und die Verhütung von Kinder-Infektionen im Krankenhauswesen. Verschiedene Reflexe bei Meningitis tragen seinen Namen:
* Brudzinski-Zeichen: reflektorische Beugung im Kniegelenk bei passiver Beugung im Nacken
* Brudzińskis Wangen-Phänomen: Druck auf die Wange unterhalb der Wangenknochen führt zum Heben und Beugen des Unterarmes
* Brudzińskis Reflex: passive Beugung eines Knies führt zur reflektorischen Beugung im gegenseitigen Knie- und Hüftgelenk; umgekehrt führt eine erzwungene Streckung des Unterschenkels zur Streckung auf der Gegenseite
* Brudzińskis Symphysen-Zeichen: Druck auf die Symphyse führt zur reflektorischen Beugung des Beines im Knie- und Hüftgelenk, sowie zur Abduktion Brudziński gründete 1908 die erste polnische Zeitschrift für Kinderheilkunde, Przegląd Pedyatryczny. (de)
- Józef Polikarp Brudziński (26 January 1874, Bolewo – 18 December 1917, Warsaw) was a Polish pediatrician born in the village of Bolewo (now in Mława County). He studied medicine in Tartu and Moscow, and in 1897 moved to Kraków, where he trained in pediatrics. Later, he worked in Graz under Theodor Escherich (1867-1911), and in Paris with Doctors Jacques-Joseph Grancher (1843-1907), Antoine Marfan (1858-1942 ) and Victor Henri Hutinel (1849-1933). In 1903 he practiced medicine at the Anne-Marie Kinderhospital in Łódź, relocating in 1910 to Warsaw, where he designed a children's hospital with financial assistance from philanthropist Sophie Szlenker. He was a catalyst in the re-establishment of a Polish university in Warsaw, where in 1915, he became rector. In 1908 he founded the first Polish journal of pediatrics, titled Przegląd Pediatryczny. Brudziński is remembered for his work involving prophylaxis of infectious diseases in children, as well as studies of neurological indications associated with meningitis. Today, his name is lent to four eponymous medical signs associated with reflexes observed in meningitis.
* Brudziński's neck sign: With the patient lying on his back and the neck is bent forward, reflective flexion of the knees take place.
* Brudziński's symphyseal sign: Pressure over symphysis pubis leads to knee, hip flexion and leg abduction.
* Brudziński's cheek phenomenon: Pressure beneath the zygomatic bone leads to flexion of the forearm.
* Brudziński's reflex: Passive flexion of one knee into the abdomen leads to involuntary flexion in the opposite leg, and stretching of a limb that was flexed leads to contralateral extension. He died on December 18, 1917 at only 43 years of age due to Nephrotic syndrome. (en)
- Józef Brudzinski fue un pediatra polaco, al cual se debe la técnica de exploración de inflamación de las meninges que lleva su nombre. Estudió medicina en Tartu y Moscú, carrera que consiguió terminar después de empezada, en 1897 en Cracovia donde se especializó en pediatría. Trabajó como médico y vivió durante un tiempo hasta, como investigadores de varias universidades han afirmado, murió. Más tarde, trabajó en Graz bajo órdenes de Theodor Escherich (1867-1911), y en París junto a los doctores (1843-1907), Antoine Marfan (1858-1942) y (1849-1933). En 1903 ejercía como médico en el Hospital Infantial Anne-Marie en Łódź, mudándose a Varsovia en 1910, donde diseñó un hospital infantil con el apoyo económico de la filántropa Sophie Szlenker. En 1908 fundó la primera revista polaca de pediatría, titulada Przegląd Pediatryczny y fue el promotor del restablecimiento de una universidad polaca en Varsovia, de la cual fue rector en 1915.
