- The Italian Buddhist Union (Italian: Unione Buddhista Italiana, UBI) is an association representing Buddhism in Italy. The UBI was founded in 1985 in Milan and functions as the Italian member of the European Buddhist Union. In 2007 the association, which represents a large chunk of Italy's 160,000 Buddhists, signed an agreement with the Italian government, in accordance with article 8 of the Italian Constitution (which regulates the relations with religious minorities), and the agreement became law in 2012. - L'Unione Buddhista Italiana è un Ente Religioso, riconosciuto con D.P.R. 3 gennaio 1991, riunisce centri, fondazioni, templi e monasteri appartenenti alle tradizioni Theravada, Mahayana e Vajrayana. In ottemperanza all’articolo 8 della Costituzione, per stabilire relazioni ufficiali con lo Stato italiano e per tutelare i diritti dei praticanti, siano essi cittadini italiani sia buddhisti provenienti dai paesi asiatici e residenti in Italia, l’U.B.I. l’11 dicembre del 2012 ha ottenuto la ratifica dell’Intesa con lo Stato italiano. Fanno attualmente parte dell’U.B.I. centri appartenenti alle tradizioni Theravada (monastica e laica), Mahayana (Ch’an, Zen e Soen coreano), alla scuola di Nichiren, e alla Mahayana-Vajrayana nelle varianti Gelugpa, Kagyupa, Nigmapa e Sakyapa. È guidata da un consiglio direttivo in cui sono rappresentate tutte le tradizioni buddhiste presenti in Italia. È, inoltre, associata all’Unione Buddhista Europea (E.B.U.). [1] (it)
