- Ionization cones, or ionisation cones, are cones of ionized material usually extending from active galactic nuclei, such as from Seyfert galaxies. They are the most common in type II Seyfert galaxies. Ionization cones are visible because of their emissions which are thought to be from re-emission of photons produced by nuclear activity within the galaxy itself. Ionization cones are observed and analyzed using various forms of spectroscopy. (en)
