- Als Schulsport bezeichnet man im Unterschied zum Hochschulsport, Betriebssport oder Freizeitsport die Gesamtheit der sport- und bewegungsbezogenen Aktivitäten, die im Rahmen der Institution Schule betrieben werden.Neben dem obligatorischen Sportunterricht gehören zum Schulsport auch freiwillige Arbeitsgemeinschaften bzw. , schulsportliche Wettkampfveranstaltungen, nationale Sportveranstaltungen, Sportfeste, Wandertage oder Klassenfahrten mit sportlichen Schwerpunkten (z. The term, which is chiefly North American, derives from the Latin words intra muros meaning "within walls", and was used to describe sports matches and contests that took place among teams from "within the walls" of an institution or area. The term dates to the 1840s. It is contrasted with extramural, varsity or intercollegiate sports, which are played between teams from different educational institutions. The word intermural, which also correctly means "between institutions", is a common error for "intramural". (en)

I till exempel Sverige hade många läroverk omfattande skolidrott under parallellskolsystemets dagar. Fenomenet förekommer i Sverige än i dag, främst på idrottsgymnasierna, men numera är det vanligare att ungdomar idrottar i förening på fritiden, utanför skolans verksamhet. (sv)
