- Das International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP) ist eine internationale, interdisziplinäre Nichtregierungs-Wissenschaftsorganisation. Es wurde 1996 vom International Council for Science (ICSU) und dem International Social Science Council (ISSC) gegründet. Das IHDP will wissenschaftliche Forschung, Kapazitätenbildung und Vernetzung vorantreiben, katalysieren und koordinieren. Das Themenspektrum reicht von der Dynamik der Landnutzung und der dadurch verursachten Landveränderungen, institutioneller Dimensionen globaler Umweltveränderungen, menschlicher Sicherheit, nachhaltiger Produktions- und Konsumsysteme bis hin zu Nahrungs- und Wasserthemen, Urbanisierung und dem weltweiten Kohlenstoffzyklus, also dem Klimawandel. Laut Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, das einen großen Teil der finanziellen Mittel beisteuert, liegt ein besonderer Schwerpunkt in der Zusammenarbeit mit Entwicklungs- und Schwellenländern. Dabei arbeitet das IHDP mit mehreren globalen Partnern zusammen: Dem International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP), dem (WCRP) sowie dem International Programme on Biodiversity (DIVERSITAS). Gemeinsam bilden diese vier Organisationen die (ESSP). Das IHDP unterstützt darüber hinaus das (START) und arbeitet zusammen mit zwischenstaatlichen Körpern wie dem (APN) oder dem (IAI).Das Sekretariat des IHDP befindet sich seit November 1996 an der Universität Bonn. Sein Personal besteht aus einem ausführenden Direktor, drei Internationalen Wissenschaftsprojekt-Koordinatoren sowie fünf weiteren Stellen. Es hat die Aufgabe, als Verteiler im Netzwerk der angeschlossenen Forschungsstellen zu fungieren und Informationen an diese sowie an relevante Einzelpersonen weiterzuleiten. Das Budget betrug 2004 1,1 Millionen und 2005 930.000 US-Dollar, wozu noch 550.000 Dollar für die Durchführung des so genannten hinzugezählt werden müssen. (de)
- The International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP) was a research programme that studied the human and societal aspects of the phenomenon of global change. IHDP aimed to frame, develop and integrate social science research on global change, and promote the application of its key findings. It strived to develop research approaches that put societies at the center of the debate, looking at then-current global environmental problems as social and societal challenges. IHDP’s work brought together groups of multi-disciplinary and multi-national researchers to work on long-term collaborative science. Its former role within the scientific field provided leadership in the selection and development of themes for focused research and in stimulating scientific communities to coordinate their efforts on these themes within the framework of its projects. IHDP research was conducted through ten projects. Its six core projects, focused on how humans affect and are affected by climate change, with specific topics including human security, urbanization, industrial transformation and environmental governance as they relate to global change. Two of its six core projects were also core projects of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) and focused specifically on coupled human-environment systems such as land use, and . It also had four joint projects on the Earth's carbon cycle, water systems, human health and food systems with the other three global change research programmes (ESSP). (en)
