- La consulta d'imatges mitjançant exemple (content-based Image retrieval, CBIR) és un sistema de recerca per recuperar imatges que es basa en el seu contingut, i que es refereix en el seu context a colors, formes, textures o qualsevol altra informació que pugui derivar-se de la imatge mateixa. CBIR és una especificitat de consulta mitjançant exemple (Query by Example) i també són coneguts com a QBIC, ja que és la tecnologia més utilitzada avui dia per a la cerca d'imatges en grans bases de dades. Entre les variants de consultes mitjançant exemple però, també hi trobem diferents especificitats com ara els sistemes de cerca amb àudio com per exemple el cercador de veu o la cerca amb text. (ca)

- Unter Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) versteht man eine inhaltsbasierte Bildersuche. Alternative Bezeichnungen sind query by image content (QBIC) und content-based visual information retrieval (CBVIR). Dabei handelt es sich um ein Spezialgebiet der Bildverarbeitung und des Wiederauffindens von Information (Information Retrieval) in großen Datenbanken. „Inhaltsbasiert“ (content based) bedeutet dabei eine Analyse des aktuellen Inhaltes eines Bildes, also der Farben, Umrisse, Oberflächen (Texturen) oder anderer Informationen (sogenannte Merkmalsvektoren), die über eine automatische Bildverarbeitung ermittelt werden können.Die Aufgabe der Bildersuche ist es, eine Liste vorhandener Bilder so zu sortieren, dass die gesuchten Bilder (etwa anhand eines Referenzbildes) möglichst weit vorne stehen. Bilder werden anhand ihrer Ähnlichkeit zum Referenzbild sortiert, die sich durch eine Distanzfunktion und die Merkmalsvektoren der Bilder bestimmt. Ein Qualitätsmaß beurteilt die Sortierung, die maßgeblich von der Wahl der Merkmalsvektoren und des Ähnlichkeitsmaßes abhängt. Im Gegensatz zur inhaltsbasierten Suche steht die „schlagwortbasierte“ oder „textbasierte“ Bildersuche, bei der eine Beschreibung des Bildes erfolgt (bspw. welche Personen sichtbar sind, welcher Gegenstand abgebildet ist oder die Koordinaten der Bilder). Die inhaltsbasierte Bildersuche wird angewandt für Bilderdatenbanken, im Bereich der medizinischen Bildverarbeitung und bei der Suche nach Plagiaten (Near Duplicate Detection). Im Bereich der Websuchmaschine, wird je nach Anbieter auch von „reverser Bildersuche“ (reverse image search) oder einer „visuellen Suchmaschine“ (visual search engine) gesprochen. (de)
- Content-based image retrieval, also known as query by image content and content-based visual information retrieval (CBVIR), is the application of computer vision techniques to the image retrieval problem, that is, the problem of searching for digital images in large databases (see this survey for a scientific overview of the CBIR field). Content-based image retrieval is opposed to traditional concept-based approaches (see Concept-based image indexing). "Content-based" means that the search analyzes the contents of the image rather than the metadata such as keywords, tags, or descriptions associated with the image. The term "content" in this context might refer to colors, shapes, textures, or any other information that can be derived from the image itself. CBIR is desirable because searches that rely purely on metadata are dependent on annotation quality and completeness. Having humans manually annotate images by entering keywords or metadata in a large database can be time-consuming and may not capture the keywords desired to describe the image. The evaluation of the effectiveness of keyword image search is subjective and has not been well-defined. In the same regard, CBIR systems have similar challenges in defining success. Les images sont classiquement décrites comme rendant compte de leur texture, couleur, forme. Un cas typique d'utilisation est la recherche par l'exemple où l'on souhaite retrouver des images visuellement similaires à un exemple donné en requête. Le caratteristiche visuali maggiormente utilizzate da questi sistemi si riferiscono al colore, alla forma e alla texture.Tali attributi si estraggono e si rappresentano automaticamente attraverso strutture di dati numerici, di modo che non sia necessario esprimere la nostra ricerca mediante invece che impiegare per esempio tavolozze di colori, disegnando o selezionando immagini a partire dalle quali il sistema restituirà altre visivamente simili.Tuttavia, i sistemi CBIR di carattere misto sono soliti combinare queste opzioni di consultazione anche con la tradizionale espressione linguistica di ciò che cerchiamo. Techniki typu QBIC spotykane są zwykle w projektach naukowo-badawczych ze względu na duże problemy algorytmiczne związane z systemami tego typu.
