- Ihi, Ehee o Casamiento Bel (Nepal Bhasa:ईही) (Bel bibaha) es una ceremonia de la comunidad Newar en Nepal en la cual niñas preadolescentes son 'desposadas' con la fruta denominada bel (también denominado: membrillo de Bengala), la cual es un símbolo del dios Vishnu, asegurando que la niña será y permanecerá fértil. Se cree que si posteriormente durante su vida su esposo fallece, ella no será considerada una viuda ya que se encuentra desposada con Vishnu, y por lo tanto cuenta con un esposo que permanece vivo. El ritual se practica desde hace varios siglos. Es un ritual considerado muy sagrado y un kanyadan real ya que una niña virgen es entregada al dios. Durante el Ihee la niña contrae nupcias con una estatua dorada del señor Vishnu denominado Suvarna Kumar y un fruto bel se entrega como testigo. Dado que el fruto bel posee la característica de que no se hecha a perder y permanece fresco por un período indefinido, a veces se lo considera Dibya Purush (macho divino) o encarnación del dios. La ceremonia se extiende durante dos días. En esta ceremonia se realizan todos los rituales de un casamiento hindú. Por lo tanto, no es preciso repetir estos rituales nuevamente cuando la joven se case con un hombre en el futuro. Esta es la razón por la cual para los newars no es preciso que el novio se diriga en procesión nupcial [janti (nep) Baaraat (Hindi)]. It is believed that if the girl's husband dies later in her life, she is not considered a widow because she is married to Vishnu, and so already has a husband that is believed to be still alive. This was basically done to dodge the tradition of 'Sati Pratha', where after the husband dies, the widow sacrifices herself in the burning fire. Ihi is falsely labeled as "Bel Bibaha". However, this naming is incorrect as "Bel Bibaha" would mean marriage to a fruit Bel(or Bael). At the core of the Ihi is a traditional Hindu ceremony of marriage, but the spouse is Visnu/Narayana. This ritual has been in practice for hundreds of years. It is a highly sacred ritual and a real kanyaadaan as a virgin girl is handed over to God. Actually, during the Ihi ceremony girl is married to a golden statue of lord Vishnu known as Suvarna Kumar, and Bel fruit is given as its witness. As bel fruit (wood apple) has a peculiar quality of not getting rotten and remaining fresh forever, it is sometimes considered as Divya Purusha (divine male) or incarnation of the god. This ceremony lasts for two days. All the rituals of a Hindu marriage are performed in this ceremony. So, these rituals need not be performed again while getting married to a man. That's why in Newars it is not necessary for a Groom to go in wedding procession [janti (nep.), Baraat (Hindi)]. The family members and friends bring the bride to the groom's house where few rituals are performed. But nowadays newar grooms take part in their wedding procession hence the wedding in this community has become a bit lengthy as compared before. A second marriage, known as the Bahra ceremony or Sun marriage, occurs before a girl's first menstruation, which starts with a seclusion in a dark room for twelve days. (en)

Dziewczynki, ubrane w czerwone ślubne stroje, poślubiają boga Wisznu, reprezentowanego przez posąg boga i owoc kleiszcza smakowitego nazywanego lokalnie bel – stąd potoczna nazwa cermonii bel wiwaha (wiwaha to ślub). Ceremonia odbywa się najczęściej dla grupy newarskich dziewczynek (również wieloosobowej) i wzorowana jest na przebiegu zawierania małżeństwa hinduistycznego między dorosłymi osobami. Przed faktycznym zamążpójściem ma miejsce jeszcze jeden podobny obrzęd. Ostatecznie zawsze newarska kobieta po wyjściu za mąż ma za sobą trzy śluby małżeńskie. Mają one praktyczne przełożenie na sytuacje i stan kobiety w świetle norm hinduizmu. Gdyby mąż ludzki zmarł przed żoną, ona nie staje się wdową w takim znaczeniu, jak to ma miejsce wśród hinduistycznych Indusów. Będąc żoną Wisznu, kobieta ma pewność, że pierwszy mąż posiadający boską naturę nigdy nie umrze. Zabezpiecza to ją przed negatywnymi skutkami społecznymi jakie towarzyszą tradycyjnie, między innymi według norm dzieła Manusmryti, wdowom. (pl)
