- وفقًا للمراقبين الدوليين، فإن حقوق الإنسان في بلجيكا تُحترم عمومًا، ويوفر القانون والسلطة القضائية وسائل فعالة لمعالجة حالات التعسف الفردية. بيد أنه قد أُبلغ عن بعض القلق إزاء معاملة طالبي اللجوء وكذلك انتهاكات حقوق الإنسان التي يتعرض لها موظفو المنظمات الدولية في السجون واكتظاظ السجون وحظر ارتداء النقاب الكامل. وقد ألغيت عقوبة الإعدام بالكامل في بلجيكا، كما أدرج حظر على عقوبة الإعدام في الدستور البلجيكي. وكانت بلجيكا عضوًا مؤسسًا في الاتحاد الأوروبي ومجلٍس أوروبا، وهي من الدول الموقعة على الاتفاقية الأوروبية لحقوق الإنسان. فبلجيكا لديها حد أدنى من القضايا المتعلقة بالفساد، وكانت تحتل المرتبة 15 من بين 167 دولة شملتها الدراسة الاستقصائية في مؤشر مدركات الفساد الصادر عن منظمة الشفافية الدولية في عام 2015. - According to international observers, human rights in Belgium are generally respected and the law and the judiciary provides effective means of addressing individual instances of abuse. However, some concerns have been reported by international human rights officials over the treatment of asylum seekers, prison overcrowding and the banning of full face veils. Capital punishment in Belgium is fully abolished and a prohibition on the death penalty is included in the Constitution of Belgium. Belgium was a founding member of the European Union and the Council of Europe and a signatory to the European Convention on Human Rights. Belgium has minimal issues regarding corruption and was ranked 15 out of 167 countries surveyed in Transparency International's 2015 Corruption Perceptions Index. (en)
- La Belgique garantit la liberté d'expression, la liberté de presse et la liberté de culte, inscrits dans sa constitution. La peine de mort a été abolie et le pays a signé divers accords internationaux relatifs aux droits de l'homme, en tant que membre de l'Union européenne : la Convention européenne des droits de l'homme et la Convention du 28 juillet 1951 relative au statut des réfugiés. La Belgique a par ailleurs été le deuxième pays au monde à avoir légalisé le mariage homosexuel en 2003. Sur l'Indice de perception de la corruption établi par l'ONG Transparency International, la Belgique est classée 22e en 2010 sur 182 pays. En termes de liberté de presse, la Belgique occupe en 2013 la 22e place du Press Freedom Index établi par l'ONG française Reporters sans frontières. (fr)
