Moderne Krankenhausbetten werden elektrisch bedient und verfügen über einen eingebauten Akku, damit die Verstellungsfunktionen auch bei Transporten zur Verfügung stehen. Krankenhausbetten werden in Krankenhäusern, Rehabilitationskliniken und Altenheimen verwendet. In der häuslichen Pflege dominiert das Pflegebett. Der Begriff kann sich auch auf die in einer solchen Einrichtung maximal mögliche Anzahl von Patienten beziehen, ohne dabei den konkreten Gegenstand oder dessen Anzahl zu meinen.
