- The Guatemalan beaded lizard (Heloderma charlesbogerti), also called commonly the Motagua Valley beaded lizard, is a highly endangered species of beaded lizard, a venomous lizard in the family Helodermatidae. The species is endemic to the dry forests of the Motagua Valley in southeastern Guatemala, an ecoregion known as the Motagua Valley thornscrub. It is the only allopatric beaded lizard species, separated from the nearest population (H. alvarezi) by 250 km (160 mi) of unsuitable habitat. The Guatemalan beaded lizard is the rarest and most endangered species of beaded lizard, and it is believed that fewer than 200 individuals of this animal exist in the wild, making it one of the most endangered lizards in the world. In 2007, it was transferred from Appendix II to Appendix I of CITES due to its critical conservation status. (en)
- El lagarto enchaquirado del valle de Motagua (Heloderma charlesbogerti) también conocido como "escorpión", es un lagarto venenoso endémico de los bosques secos del Valle del Motagua en el este de Guatemala. El lagarto es una especie de la familia Helodermatidae y es la única especie alopátrica, separada de la especie más cercana de lagartos enchaquirados (H. alvarezi) por 250 km de hábitat inadecuado. El lagarto enchaquirado del valle de Motagua es una especie muy rara y en crítico peligro de extinción ya que se cree que existen menos de 500 de estos animales en la naturaleza, convirtiéndolo en uno de los lagartos más amenazados del mundo. Debido a su crítico estado de conservación, fue trasladado del apéndice II al apéndice I de CITES. Existe una reserva de 58 hectáreas destinada a la conservación de esta especie y su habitat en el área de El Arenal, Guatemala. (es)
