- Hathut Records is a Swiss record company and label founded by Werner Xavier Uehlinger in 1974 that specializes in jazz and classical music. The name of the label comes from the artwork of Klaus Baumgartner. Hathut encompasses the labels hat ART, hatOLOGY, and hat NOIR. The label's first releases were by Joe McPhee. Its roster includes Ray Anderson, Anthony Braxton, Lisle Ellis, , Gerry Hemingway, Franz Koglmann, Steve Lacy, Joelle Leandre, Myra Melford, Paul Plimley, Max Roach, Horace Tapscott, Cecil Taylor, Mike Westbrook, John Zorn, Vienna Art Orchestra, David Murray, Luzia von Wyl, Archie Shepp, Jimmy Lyons, Tony Coe, Michel Portal, and Sun Ra, The label progressed through a range of series featuring distinct packaging styles, from the initial runs of initial 12 inch LP's with alphabetical and numerical catalog numbers with sleeve drawings and paintings by Klaus Baumgärtner, to elaborately packaged boxes with inserts and postcards, and then black and white photography on CD releases. From 1985 until 2000 the label received funding from the Swiss Bank Corporation. Its catalogue was acquired by the Belgian music publisher Outhere Music in 2017. (en)
- Hathut Records est un label discographique indépendant de jazz, musique improvisée, et de musique contemporaine basé en Suisse, à Bâle. Le label est fondé en 1975 by Werner X. Uehlinger afin de documenter le travail du saxophoniste et trompettiste Joe McPhee. Le label est spécialisé dans le free jazz et la musique improvisée et enregistre des artistes comme Anthony Braxton, Peter Brötzmann, Steve Lacy, David Liebman, David Murray, Cecil Taylor, Mal Waldron, John Zorn, Steve Lacy ou Daunik Lazro. Le label enregistre aussi bien des artistes européens qu'américains, et joue un rôle important dans la diffusion du free dans les années 1970 et 1980. Le label revendique une grande prise de risque dans le choix des artistes, en produisant essentiellement des musiques marginales, orientées vers les amateurs spécialisés. Au départ cantonné au jazz, Hathut s'élargit ensuite à la musique contemporaine, avec en particulier des œuvres de Karlheinz Stockhausen, John Cage, Giacinto Scelsi, Cornelius Cardew, George Crumb, Morton Feldman, Charles Ives. À la suite de ces nouveaux apports, Hathut scinde ses productions en différentes catégories (hatART, HatOLOGY, hatNOIR), correspondant au jazz, musique contemporaine, et à l'inclassable. De 1985 à 2000, Hathut reçoit le soutien financier de la banque suisse UBS. , Dave Liebman, Marc Copland, Ellery Eskelin, le Vienna Art Orchestra, Theo Jörgensmann, Franz Koglmann, , ou le quatuor de saxophone Xasax enregistrent régulièrement pour Hathut. En France et en Espagne, Hathut est distribué par Harmonia Mundi. En septembre 2012, Werner X. Uehlinger lance un appel aux « idéalistes et sympathisants ». Face aux récentes difficultés financières rencontrées par Hathut, liées à la crise économique et à la crise du disque, son fondateur recherche actuellement des mécènes qui fourniraient un soutien financier et assureraient ainsi le futur du label. Het is gevestigd in Basel. Het werd in 1975 opgericht door Werner X. Uehlinger, in eerste instantie om muziek op uit te brengen van de saxofonist en trompettist . Hoewel het aanvankelijk een jazz-label was, kwam hierop later ook werk van avant-garde klassieke componisten als Karlheinz Stockhausen, John Cage en Giacinto Scelsi uit. Belangrijke vroege uitgaven van het label waren platen van onder meer Steve Lacy, Anthony Braxton en Cecil Taylor. Enkele andere artiesten die op hatHut uitkwamen zijn Peter Brötzmann, John Zorn, Mike Westbrook, Dave Liebman, , Theo Jörgensmann, Morton Feldman en Paul Smoker. Jaarlijks komen er zo'n 25 platen op uit, nieuw werk en heruitgaven, in een oplage van 3000 stuks.
