- Der GuruPlug ist ein kompakter Plug Computer mit niedrigem Stromverbrauch, der mit einem auf Debian basierenden Linux-System ausgeliefert wird. Er wird von der Firma Globalscale Technologies als Gerät angeboten, das als Webserver, Druckserver oder Server für jeden anderen Netzwerkservice fungieren kann. Es verfügt über einen internen Speicher in Form von NAND-Flash, bietet aber auch über externe Schnittstellen wie USB und microSD die Speicherung von Daten an. Die erste Generation dieser Geräte besaß intern keine beweglichen Teile wie etwa Lüfter oder Laufwerke, was das Gerät nahezu lautlos funktionieren ließ. Durch einen Designfehler kam es aber bei dieser Generation häufig zu temperaturbedingten Abschaltungen. - GuruPlug is a compact and low power plug computer running Linux. It is intended to be a device that could act as a web server, a print server or any other network service. It has local storage in NAND Flash, but also offers USB ports and a Serial ATA port to connect external hard disks. The first versions of the GuruPlug Plus had no moving parts such as fans. Combined with the low power ARM architecture CPU, this results in both power consumption and noise level being typically lower compared to desktop PCs. However, these units had significant heating issues and were prone to overheating (the lack of a temperature sensor could form a safety issue when the unit is left running for multiple days). Newer versions of the GuruPlug Plus manage the overheating problem by adding a 2-cm fan to the design, although this eliminates the benefit of the silent design. The fan is not software-controllable and makes a sound resembling that of a hair dryer. The standard version of GuruPlug still has no fan and thus produces no noise. In the area of small and low-power computing, SheevaPlug was its predecessor. (en)

Está pensado para ser un dispositivo que podría hacer de servidor web, servidor de impresión o de cualquier otro servicio de red. Tiene almacenamiento interno en memoria flash de tipo NAND, pero también posee puertos USB y un puerto Serial ATA para conectar discos duros externos. Las primeras versiones del GuruPlug Plus no tenían partes móviles como ventiladores, y como resultado el consumo energético y el nivel de ruido eran menores comparados con la mayoría de los ordenadores de sobremesa; sin embargo, estas unidades tuvieron graves problemas de disipación de calor y eran propensos a recalentarse (un posible fallo de seguridad si se deja varios días). Este problema se resolvió en versiones posteriores del GuruPlug Plus añadiendo un ventilador de 2cm al diseño, aunque esto eliminaba los beneficios del diseño silencioso.
