- Die Meerenge von Brest (französisch: Goulet de Brest, bretonisch: Mulgul Brest) verbindet die Reede von Brest (franz. rade de Brest) mit dem Atlantik. Sie ist 3000 m lang und 1500 m breit. In der Mitte der Meerenge befindet sich ein Riff, das durchfahrende Schiffe zwingt, die Meerenge entweder am nördlichen oder am südlichen Ufer zu durchfahren. Der Gezeitenstrom erreicht hier eine Geschwindigkeit von vier bis fünf Knoten. Segelboote warten häufig in der Bucht von Camaret-sur-Mer auf den für die Durchfahrt günstigsten Zeitpunkt. Da sich in Brest seit Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts einer der wichtigsten Militärhäfen Frankreichs befindet, ist die Meerenge von Brest von großer strategischer Bedeutung. Zu ihrer Verteidigung wurden an beiden Ufern militärische Bauwerke wie beispielsweise die Festung von Bertheaume errichtet. (de)
- The Goulet de Brest is a 3-km-long strait linking the roadstead of Brest to the Atlantic Ocean. Only 1.8 km wide, the goulet is situated between the Pointe du Petit Minou and the Pointe du Portzic to the north and the îlot des Capucins and the Pointe des Espagnols to the south. At each turn of the tide, the ocean refills the roadstead in a current that can attain 4 to 5 knots. Sailing ships would thus wait in the cove of Camaret-sur-Mer for a favourable current to carry them into the goulet. On 2 January 1793, the Childers Incident – the first shots of the war between Great Britain and France during the French Revolutionary Wars – took place in the goulet. (en)

Long de 3 000 m et large de seulement 1 500 m, il est situé entre la pointe du Petit Minou et le phare du Portzic au nord, et l'îlot des Capucins et la pointe des Espagnols au sud. À chaque renversement de marée, l'océan remplit et vide la rade de Brest en torrents pouvant atteindre 4 à 5 nœuds. Ainsi l'escale naturelle pour les voiliers est l'anse de Camaret-sur-Mer, afin d'attendre un courant favorable pour y accéder.
