- The Gotland Russ or Gotland Pony is an old Swedish breed of pony or small horse. Until the twentieth century it was found only on the small island of Gotland on the south-eastern coast of Sweden. It is now distributed through much of Sweden and is also present in some other European countries and in the United States. The Öland horse from the neighbouring island of Öland was a close relative of the Gotland, but became extinct in the early twentieth century. (en)
- Le Gotland (suédois : Gotland Russ) ou Skogsruss, est une race de poneys originaire de l'île du même nom, à l'est de la Suède. Ce poney autochtone rustique, proche des chevaux des Goths, a longtemps vécu dans l'isolement des forêts de son île natale. Menacé de disparition à la fin du XIXe siècle et au cours du siècle suivant, il est croisé avec des chevaux orientaux et Welsh, sans traces notables sur son modèle. Le gouvernement suédois se mobilise pour sa préservation et en 1943, un stud-book est fondé. Le Gotland est un poney léger, qui présente souvent une robe aux caractères primitifs. Doux et rustique, il est désormais employé en équitation sur poney avec les enfants, et lors de courses de trot. Bien que rare, le Gotland jouit d'une certaine popularité dans toute la Scandinavie, et s'exporte en Amérique du Nord. L'effectif est d'environ 9 000 poneys dans toute la Scandinavie en 2011. (fr)
