- تفاضل الأجيال هو الاعتقاد بأن جيلاً معينًا لديه صفات فطرية قد تكون أقل شأنًا أو أعلى شأنًا من صفات جيل آخر. وينطبق هذا المصطلح عادة على ادعاءات التفوق في القيم الواضحة والتقييمات وأنماط الحياة والمعتقدات العامة لأحد الأجيال مقارنة بتلك الخاصة بجيل آخر، حيث تنقص المعايير القابلة للتحقق بموضوعية، والتي تثبت صحة ادعاء التفوق في حد ذاتها. ويُستخدم المصطلح تفاضل الأجيال بكثرة كاتهام ضد الاعتقاد بأن الجيل المعاصر في حد ذاته متفوق بطبيعته على الأجيال السابقة، على سبيل المثال من خلال الممارسة الشائعة المتمثلة في الإشارة التحقيرية للثقافات القديمة على أنها «بدائية» - ينبغي عدم خلط ذلك مع المسمى الإيجابي البدائية - على الرغم من أن مقارنة الجيل الأكبر سنًا بالقيم والأنماط الحياتية للجيل الجديد قد تتم الإشارة إليها أيضا شعبيًا بأنها توليدية. وقد تمت دراسة تفاضل الأجيال كظاهرة اجتماعية متكررة بالتفصيل من قبل الفيلسوفين السويديين ألكسندر بارد وجان سوديرفيست من خلال عملهما «الإمبراطورية العالمية» (The Global Empire) (المنشور في عام 2003 باللغة السويدية).واعتبر بارد وسوديرفيست تفاضل الأجيال أنه يرتبط بشكل وثيق ولكن بتحليل أقل كثيرًا بالعنصرية، والتي يقترحان أنه ينبغي دراستها بمزيد من التفصيل لتعزيز المناقشة العامة المتعلقة بـ النسبوية والبراجماتية في الفلسفة المعاصرة. - Generationism is the belief that a specific generation has inherent traits that make it inferior or superior to another generation. The term is usually applied to claims of superiority in the expressed values, valuations, lifestyles and general beliefs of one generation compared to those of another, where objectively verifiable criteria substantiating the claim of superiority in themselves are lacking. Generationism is most commonly used as an accusation against the belief that the contemporary generation in itself is inherently superior to previous generations, for example through the common practice of pejoratively referring to ancient cultures as "primitive" – not to be confused with the positive label of primitivism – although an older generation's opposition to the values and lifestyles of a younger generation may also popularly be referred to as generationist. Generationism as a recurring sociological phenomenon has been studied in detail by the Swedish philosophers Alexander Bard and Jan Söderqvist in their work "The Global Empire" (published in Swedish in 2003). Bard and Söderqvist regard generationism as a close but far less frequently analyzed relative of racism which they propose should be studied in more detail to strengthen the general argumentation for relativism and pragmatism in contemporary philosophy.
