- Friedrich Gustav Kardinal PIFFL (naskiĝis la 15-an de oktobro 1864 en Landskron, mortis la 21-an de aprilo 1932 en Vieno) estis altranga aŭstria ekleziulo kaj favoranto de la Internacia Lingvo. Piffl estis Viena ĉefepiskopo de 1913 ĝis sia morto en 1932 kaj estis nomumita kardinalo en 1914. Dum 1907-1913 li estis preposto de la konvento Klosterneuburg (Malsupra Aŭstrio), ĉe kies interna teologia altlernejo li oficis kiel profesoro. Li fondigis en 1910 la Akademion por Eklezia Muziko ("Akademie für kirchliche Musik") kaj dediĉis sin post 1918 intense al la agadoj de la karitata organizo "Caritas". Li zorgegis, ke 42 provizoraj diservejoj kiel ankaŭ 18 novaj kirkoj konstruiĝis en la Viena ĉefepiskopejo kaj 5 preĝejoj en antaŭ mallonge ankoraŭ al Hungario aparteninta Burgenlando. Piffl fariĝis apostola administranto de Burgenlando, enkondukis la Katolikan Akcionon en Aŭstrion kaj populariĝis kiel ŝatata animzorga kaj populareca episkopo. Gustav Piffl was born in Lanškroun, Bohemia, in what was then the Austrian Empire. He was the son of Rudolf Piffl who was a bookseller and shopkeeper. He volunteered for a year in the Austrian army in his early life. After deciding to become a priest he entered the Teutonic College of S. Maria in Camposanto in Rome and later the Sankt'Augustin monastery, Austria. He joined the Congregation of the Canons Regular of Saint Augustine in 1883 taking the name Friedrich. He finished his studies at the University of Vienna, where he studied philosophy. (en)

- Friedrich Gustav Piffl (Landskron, 15 oktober 1864 – Wenen, 21 april 1932) was een Oostenrijk-Hongaars geestelijke en kardinaal van de Rooms-Katholieke Kerk. Piffl was de zoon van een boekhandelaar. Na zijn middelbare school deed hij eerst dienst in het Oostenrijkse leger. Hij studeerde vervolgens aan het Duits College van Santa Maria in Camposanto in Rome. Hij trad in 1883 toe tot de orde der Augustijnen in Klosterneuburg en studeerde vervolgens nog filosofie aan de Universiteit van Wenen. Piffl werd op 8 januari 1888 priester gewijd. Hij werkte vervolgens als pastoor in Wenen en werd daarna achtereenvolgens prior en provoost van het klooster in Klosterneuburg. Paus Pius X benoemde hem in 1913 tot aartsbisschop van Wenen. Tijdens het consistorie van 25 mei 1914 creëerde Pius hem kardinaal. Hij kreeg de San Marco als titelkerk. Hij nam deel aan het conclaaf van 1914 dat leidde tot de verkiezing van paus Benedictus XV en dat van 1922, dat leidde tot de verkiezing van paus Pius XI. De kardinaal wijdde zich met overgave aan de liefdadigheid en was de sturende kracht achter de Katholieke Actie in Oostenrijk. Hij werd begraven in de crypte van de Stephansdom. (nl)
