Los discos de Fish o "Fish Disks" (término acuñado por en un encuentro del Grupo de Usuarios de Amiga) estaban repletos de software de dominio público y de software libre exclusivo para Amiga. Estas compilaciones de software se realizaron desde el año 1986 hasta el año 1994. Los discos de Fish se convirtieron en todo un referente para los usuarios de Amiga a nivel mundial y a pesar de que se dejaron de realizar hoy son una grandiosa fuente de información donde se puede trazar la creciente sofisticación del software de amiga de aquellos años. La forma de distribuir estos discos era a través del correo puesto que Internet aún no era popular fuera de los círculos militares y universitarios. Los discos de Fish se distribuyeron también en tiendas de computadoras Commodore Amiga y también de los diferentes clubs de usuarios entusiastas de Amiga. Los diferentes volúmenes solían venir en paquetes de 5 discos cada dos meses y el total de discos realizados es de 999.En su día era posible suscribirse anualmente por una cantidad de 50 dólares por año y te enviaban a casa las compilaciones. Con la popularidad que comenzó a tener Internet a principios de los años 90 y la aparición de las primeras fue posible encontrar estos discos en CD colgados en servidores FTP por Internet y sueltos en las BBS. Existen 2 catálogos para poder buscar el software que uno desea, estos catálogos son "el Aquarium" y "el King fisher". Fred Fish murió de un ataque a corazón en su casa de Idaho el Viernes 20 de abril del año 2007 a la edad de 54 años (es)
- Fred Fish (November 4, 1952 – April 20, 2007) was a computer programmer notable for work on the GNU Debugger and his series of freeware Fish disks for the Amiga. The Fish Disks (term coined by Perry Kivolowitz at a Jersey Amiga User Group meeting) became the first national rallying point, a sort of early postal system. Fish would get his disks off around the world in time for regional and local user group meetings who in turn duplicated them for local consumption. Typically, only the cost of materials changed hands. The Fish Disk series ran from 1986 to 1994. In it, one can chart the growing sophistication of Amiga software and see the emergence of many software trends. The Fish Disks were distributed at computer stores and Commodore Amiga enthusiast clubs. Contributors submitted applications and source code and the best of these each month were assembled and released as a diskette. Since the Internet was not yet in popular usage outside military and university circles, this was a primary way for enthusiasts to share work and ideas. He also initiated the "GeekGadgets" project, a GNU standard environment for AmigaOS and BeOS. Fish worked for Cygnus Solutions in the 1990s before he left for Be Inc. in 1998. In 1978, he self-published User Survival Guide for TI-58/59 Master Library, which was advertised in enthusiast newsletters covering the TI-59 programmable calculator. (en)

As disquetes eram distribuidas no mundo inteiro através de BBSs e também pelo correio, uma vez que o acesso à internet na altura era caríssimo e ainda não era muito popular.
