- قبضة القوس (بالإنجليزية: Fistmele) وَتُعرف أيضاً بارتفاع الحاصرة، هي مصطلح قديم يُستعمل في الرماية لوصف المسافة الصحيحة بين القوس والوتر. وتكون هذه المسافة حوالي 7 إنش، لشمال أوروبا، أو القوس الطويل الإنجليز. المصطلح نفسه هو كلمة إنجليزية قديمة تبين قياس اليد المقبوضة مع رفع الإبهام. قد يُحصل على ارتفاعات الحاصرة المختلفة من نفس طول الوتر عن طريق لفّها حول نفسها قبل وضعها في القوس. الارتفاع الصحيح يساعد على تقليل صوت إطلاق السهم وكذلك نفس اهتزازات القوس. وبناءً على ذلك، فإذا كانت المسافة قليلة جداً فإنها ستصدر إزعاجاً وطيران ضعيف للسهم. ويُسمى القوس «مُفرط» عندما تزداد هذه المسافة بشكل أكثر من المطلوب. - Fistmele, also known as the "brace height", is an older term used in archery to describe the correct distance (about seven inches, for a Northern European or English longbow) between a bow and its string. The term itself is a Saxon word (suffix -mele referring to the old form of the archaic sense of meal as "measure") indicating the measure of a clenched hand with the thumb extended. Different brace heights may be obtained from the same length of string by twisting it around before affixing it to the bow. A proper height helps to reduce noise upon the release of an arrow and vibrations in the bow itself. Consequently, if the distance is too small excess noise and poor arrow flight are the results. A bow is said to be "overstrung" when this distance is exceeded. (en)
