All services are built on GPL’d libraries, including firetalk, , libmsn, XMPP, and libyahoo2. Fire supports OS X v10.1 and higher. The latest version of Fire is 1.5.6. The program is released under the GNU General Public License. On 23 February 2007, it was announced that there would be no future versions of Fire released. The official Fire website stated there were several reasons, the biggest being the loss of developers, followed by the fact that most of the libraries used by Fire are no longer in active development. Two of Fire's developers joined the Adium team and wrote a transition path for users to move from Fire to Adium. The announcement recommended Adium for future IM needs. (en)

- Fire (voorheen voor OPENSTEP) was de eerste instant-messagingcliënt voor Mac OS X welke toegang kon verkrijgen tot IRC, Jabber, AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo! Messenger en Bonjour. Alle services waren gebouwd op bibliotheken die onder de GPL zijn uitgebracht, waaronder firetalk, libfaim, libicq2000, libmsn, Jabber en libyahoo2. Op 23 februari 2007 werd aangekondigd dat er geen verdere versies van Fire uitgegeven gingen worden. De officiële Fire-website legde uit dat er verschillende redenen waren, waarvan de grootste het verlies van ontwikkelaars, gevolgd door het feit dat de meeste componentbibliotheken gebruikt door Fire niet meer actief ontwikkeld werden. Twee Fire-ontwikkelaars hebben zich bij het Adium-team gevoegd en hebben een overgangspad geschreven voor gebruikers om van Fire naar Adium over te stappen.
